Hilary

Hi, I have been struggling with terrible hair loss since the fall of 2012. My beautiful hair began falling out in clumps out of nowhere and I could not understand for the life of me why. It was not until the fall of 2014 that I was diagnosed with PCOS and put on birth control (Nuvaring).

My PCOS symptoms are as follows: no period, really high testosterone levels, polycystic ovaries, hair loss, and acne. And my doctor told me that birth control was my only option. I was on birth control for only 1 year and 3 months because it made me feel like I needed to cry constantly (almost everyday). However, it my hair did grow back while on it but it took about a year to notice. I went off of it in mid-January 2016 and within 2 weeks my hair began to fall out all over again and hasn't stopped yet (it is now almost April 2016).

So now, I am happy and not crying but my hair is falling out all over again. About 1 month ago I saw my primary care doctor (instead of the gyno that I saw before) and she ran some blood tests to confirm my high testosterone levels. Well they were still high of course but she also noticed that my ferritin levels were 29. She prescribed me Spironolactone 25 mg. a day to lower my testosterone and told me to take a multivitamin with iron in it and I am.
