Yeah, you can. Sweat alone usually isn’t the main problem — rubbing your hair with a towel, hat, hands, or against equipment is more likely to mess the fibers up. A light holding spray helps a lot, and I’d probably use a bit less than usual for sports.
That can definitely happen before you notice much movement in the hairline. Overall density and the hairline don’t always change at the same rate. If it came on fairly suddenly after a stressful period, shedding could be part of it rather than straightforward progressive hair loss.
