0.5 twice a day?

I've heard that Finasteride is metabolized by the body within 6 hours. Does that mean taking half your dose in the morning and half at night may give you different results than popping the entire dose at once? Just curious.

IIRC it takes six hours to get fully absorbed and into the bloodstream but that it's 1/2 life in the system is something clooser to 12 or 18 hours. THere is still a decent ammount from your morning dosage in your system the next day.

Whatever the heck the exact numbers are for your body it really doesn't make much sense to burden yourself by taking 1/2 doses every 12hours.

although the half-life it 6-8hours, the effect can last quite a number of day. so take 0.5mg twice per day make very little different.

Everytime I seem to check this forum, someone has created another crazy and non-logical new dosage for finasteride. How many times people: ITS 1MG DAILY FOR A REASON.

Yes, I understand that it's 1mg daily for a reason. I've been taking the drug that way for SEVEN YEARS, with success. Now that it is suddenly FAILING, I am looking for other ways to dose my intake to combat tolerance. Forgive me for asking.

You're being chastised by someone on finasteride a few months, basically regurgitating everything he read here. :) Meanwhile, this forum could learn far more from your own seven years of practical experience.

Myself, I've been on finasteride for three and a half years. Although, I actually lowered my dosage to .5mg after reading stories regarding tolerance, such as yours... and of course, to combat side effects. Otherwise, you place yourself up against a brick wall, with absolutely no wiggle room. I'd imagine (just like any drug) there's a point of satiation, where finasteride is simply no longer as effective.

But how about giving finasteride a slight rest... lowering your dosage to .2mg, and then starting on minoxodil? I completely stopped finasteride for a month, and even that gave me a huge jumpstart. And after starting minoxidil at year three, that also pushed my progress to another level, entirely.

Thank you for reaching out. I'm definitely into cycling off for a while, if that will make a difference. Did you lose a lot of ground when you stopped? Was the jumpstart after the month break really that noticeable? This is extremely interesting stuff to me. Thanks again!

The bad news is stopping finasteride for 4-5 weeks possibly set me back around 2-3 months. Although, at no point did I ever increase shedding that dramatically... maybe at most, twenty hairs more a day. But when I restarted, I noticed at around 6 months that my hair started to grow back even thicker.

finasteride doesn't get rid of all DHT, just reduces the level dramatically, and as I understand it a mans hair tends to become more sensitive to DHT the older they get, so I'd think it more likely not that you have developed a tolerance to finasteride but your hair has become more sensitive to DHT. I haven't seen any evidence in the research that I have done that finasteride becomes less effective over time

Don't be so sure though. Finasteride wouldn't be the first drug to lose efficacy the longer it's taken. In fact, there a long list of medicines to which the human body can develop a tolerance, and in some cases a resistance. Although, like you've stated, I've yet to see a single study, like there has been for antibiotics (for instance,) that either completely confirms or denies this suspicion. But as a precaution, I personally have no problem with staggering my doses of finasteride intermittently.
