1% Minoxidil To Avoid Side Effects?

What do you guys think about using only 1% minoxidil instead of 2% or 5%? I got bad side effects (chest pain) from the 5% and assume that my body reacts very sensitive to Minoxidil in general. I tried to lower the dosis and only apply once per day, but unfortunately the chest pain remained and only went away completely when I stopped minoxidil.

As my hair is getting worse and worse and I'm really desperate, I'm now thinking about using 1% Minoxidil (found a product from KeratinMD which has also other ingredients eg Emu oil in it). I'm aware that 1% most likely is less effective but still better than nothing I assume...

Any experience with this? Any thoughts? Would be much appreciated... :D

Take the best treatments you can. If they have a 2% available, I'd try that first.

Makes sense... I was thinking of watering down the 5% Rogaine (I have many bottles left) to 2,5% or 2% so I don't have to invest so much money again o_O
I'm a bit scared of the shedding tho, as after 1 month of 5% Rogaine I lost a massive amount of hair and it still hasn't grown back... and no, the hair I lost wasn't hair that I regrew using minoxidil (I only used it for a month)... :(

@David_MPN I just read in your profile that you do intermittent fasting, so do I! I was just wondering if fasting can cause hair loss as well - at least that's what I read on the internet. What are your thoughts about that?

It's unknown what kind of effect fasting can have on hair growth.

My best guess is that short-term fasting might be beneficial, whereas long-term fasting might be detrimental.

Anecdotal reports are all over the place.

Personally I can't tell.

Did you ever have a physical?

Just to make sure you are okay no underlying health concerns.

No, I didn't because I am sure the chest pain was caused by the Minoxidil. I never had any chest pain before and never had it again after quitting minoxidil

my point is everything i know about minoxidil IF i got chest pains from just 5% i would go get a physical and perhaps even see a cardiologist to make sure nothing is underlying that was making me sensitive to minoxodil.
Just to be safe.

I doubt it was related to the medicine i think it was just a weird coincidence but if it was medicine maybe you should have a physical because unless you are overdosing it's not common to get chest and or back pain from 5%.

Yeah okay, I see where you're coming from. Might be a good idea anyways to get a physical. I was shocked as well that this little amount of minoxidil can harm someone that much. I have a theory though... I had big issues with my scalp that time - bad dermatitis, dandruff, red rash ect and there was probably more medicine absorbed in the system than usual.

I will try to water down the 5% to 2,5 % or 2% and see how it goes... Studies show that 2% is not less effective over a long period than 5%.

I know one of the long time posters had posted about when he first started minoxidil he was over-dosing himself by using too much product and also using it out of shower when pores were open..he was very dizzy for few days--he said sever vertigo...so he warned when new to it to be cautious of dose and don't apply it out of shower...if you have irritation perhaps this effected you.

But i don't mean it to scare you I jus think go check it out...I don't know if minoxidil in 5% would hurt someone who is in excellent health--A higher percentage? yeah because many people post on here at 10 and 15 % having pouring heart etc.
