1 yr report on propecia

Well, its officially 12 months since popping the pill daily. I am pretty much disappointed.

I started propecia in an attempt to curb my slightly receeding hairline. I'd say it was about Norwood 1.5 a year ago. I've started to notice hairloss since I was 21 and I started propecia when I was 26. So, it took me basically 5 yrs to get to a Norwood 1.5. Well, it seems in this past year I have become a full NW2 despite takin propecia daily. Maybe I was genetically doomed this past yr anyways and nothing could have stopped the recession... or maybe not. Who knows? The most disturbing trend is the hairloss I have all over my head this past year. I can see the hair thinning from tip to root, and it seems like no region of my scalp is spared (front, top, sides and back). My hair is flat and as unhealthy looking as ever. Prior to propecia all my hairloss worries were directed to my hairline. Now, I feel like I may go entirely bald.

For the good news. Somedays I do feel like my hair looks better than others. I am able to see some sprouting hairs. This is about it, since in the last couple months I have been going thru the worst shed since I popped my first pill 12 months ago. This is the worst because:
1) It has lasted the longest (2months and still going)
2) Shedding all over
3) Shedding thick hairs (first shed seemed to shed only thin hairs)
4) It is a very late shed, since I'm on my 12th month

I have one more pro-pak left (90 pills), and if I dont see at least a trend in some slowdown in shedding, I am going to quit. I've endured the 12th month timeline, but i'll fight on for another 3 months. Im hoping for a good surprise.

That is a shame to hear as I am also giving finasteride (Proscar) 15 months to take effect before I abandon treatment, I hope that the next few months bring you some belated noticable improvements.

Pretty unusual that you have hairloss at the back and sides, maybe male pattern baldness is not to blame for this? Have you experienced any noticable side effects from using Propecia?

does male pattern baldness run in your family?

Yes male pattern baldness runs in my family, and my hairloss is due to my genetics. I dont want to discourage anyone from trying propecia. From these boards, ive seen alot more success than failures. The reason why it might seem the opposite is because the ones who dont improve tend to voice it more

I think its better to shed thick hairs than thin hairs. Hair is always falling due to a cycle so when it falls it has to be thick.

When a follicle is damaged it interrupts hair growing so you shed thin hair and then the follicle is not able to produce hair anymore.

Am i wrong?

it's ridiculous that propecia has not helped in the other areas besides your hairline. No one should ever expect Propecia to help on the hairline, if it dos it's gravy. I really think you should not give up with propecia as it is helping to hold what you have. The grass is always greener it seems, but you will be sorry if you stop Propecia.

propecia does help on the hairline. the reason it's less effective is because the hairs there are more sensitive.
