Well, ive noticed that im losing a lot of hair on my front (receding hairline) and that the front of my hair, above my forehead, doesnt really seem to grow at all compared to the rest of my head...what steps should i take?

am i better off starting on just Propecia or the like or using Rogaine (minoxidil)? i went to walmart today to look at rogaine and it said it was for the "vertex" area of your head, so does it still work on the front?

Just want to know if i should get started on treatments now, and what they should be, i'd prefer not seeing a dermo. as I dont have much extra money laying around...

thanks alot

Ya, it says that is is for the vertex because they only did tests in that area. I have been using it on my receding temples and am seeing new hairs gorw. Get on minoxidil and possibly spironolactone to keep your hair.

I subtely disagree with the poters above because I personally think that you might be a good candidate for Propecia/Finasteride. One pill popped once a day might do the same trick for you as the tedious topical solutions that some of us old-timers more concerned with sexual virilitly have to deal with.

I would suggest trying Propecia. That is plan one, that and starting shampooing with Nizoral 3x week. And if you are hesitant about taking Propecia, or if you try it and stick with it for a year or so, then I would suggest a regimen of 5% Minoxidil day and night and spironolactone plus continuing the Nizoral. A little more complicated of a regimen to keep up, but if plan one doesn't work than this should. And if plan 2 doesn't work out, there is plan 3, which is dropping the minoxidil 5% for Xandrox 5% or even 12% and f*****g burning those hairs back to attention whether they want to or not!

No matter what, I strongly suggest close attention be paid to your nutrition. Stop smoking and start making some healthier choices whenever you have a choice, be smart... and good luck...

well at the moment...i cant get a hold of finasteride. because i dont have a dermo. and the first visit would be costly (100$+), but anyway, should i start on the minx and nizoral and then eventually if i can start finasteride., to do that and then i could drop minx and nizoral?

thx alot..

I am with the Gardener on this one.

Try and read as many of the old posts as you can look for people in a similar situation (age wise) there is a lot of info out there, it might take a few days of trawling, but do it and cut all the relevant stuff into some kind of text file so you can read it all over a couple of times.

There are concerns with tinkering with your hormones at this age so keep an eye out for any info on that.

Good Luck and keep asking the questions.

True, once you start minoxidil, you have to continue to use it in order to keep your results. It, relatively speaking, is not THAT hard of a routine to add into your daily process especially since you still HAVE hair.

Finast literally stops the male pattern baldness process in successful users, will keep what you got, longer, which I think is a big plus for someone with your age. I remember my lifestyle at your age, a lot more hectic than mine is now, and adding a once a day pill to my daily process is a lot easier than religiously applying minoxidil twice a day. The upside is that taking a pill is easy. The downside is that it works by reducing certain hormone levels in your body, which can be good for some users (reducing the spread of body hair), bad for a few others (reduces sexual libido), but usually has no side effects for most all users. If you go this route, and I personally think it would be better for you, then I would definitely see the Doctor first and see what the Doctor thinks about it. The initial cost of seeing the Doctor is WELL worth the tradeoff in ease of use over time in my opinion.

You will get a shed from most any hairloss treatments you start. The thought of it scared me, but after going through a month on minoxidil I realized that this was far more overblown of an issue than has been discussed here, at least for me. I did have some shedding on week 2 on minoxidil, saw lots of hair in my shower drain, etc.... but it did not effect the overall look of my hair, and it has stopped, and those hairs that did shed will soon grow back thicker. It kind of reassured me to see the shed hairs, reassured me that the minoxidil is working for me and that I am responding to it. Then again, this is just MY experience, some people have had more significant sheds but the research shows that this only happens to a handful of people and, like I said above, the shed hairs will regrow.

thanks alot gardener...

considering this, i believe i am gonna look into ordering some proscar, seems to be the cheapest after you split it into 5's. do you recommend any online site to order from? without a pres. that is? ill go to the Doctor, i would just rather spend 60$ on a few months worth of finasteride. than a 1 hour visit with a derm to tell me the same thing.

it isnt too bad now, so if i start and keep what i have, ill be happy :).

thanks.
