well, here's whats happening to me

- receding a little on each side

- front hair is thinner than rest of head

-front hairs dont really seem to GROW like the rest of my hair, just kindof stay the same length

what can i do? right now im kinda low on money (just lost my job), but want to nip this in the butt so as to prevent any loss for my fun years :\

im trying to contact my dermo. to get an appt or try and get a prescription for proscar or the like, it seems the best from what i've read...

what else can i do until then? how much does proscar or propecia usually cost?

any suggestions? thanks a ton.

Sup chin,

Well u took the right step to go see ur derm. See ur family Doctor too and talk to him about male pattern baldness. (Prob get the same info u find here but none the less, its a good safety procedure). 18 is young to get on any drugs IMO. Even minoxidle say u gotta be 18 and above (i dont like bare minimum requirements but thats just me).

On the other hand, I just did a search myself on cheap hair regimes and i found the following:

shivs wrote

MSM capsules (Swanson) 500mg-250capsules-$6.74= $3.50 per month
Centrum performance(any drug store)-120tablets--$19.99= $5.00 p/m
Kirkland minoxidil or Costco minoxidil (2-pack)-$15.00 p/m
Proscar 28 tabs (split into 5ths)=140 pills-$13.00 p/m
Nizoral 1% (any drug store) 1 bottle good for 2 months- $5.00 p/m

TOTAL COST PER MONTH= $41.50

Just a small price to pay for keeping your hair!

and even better ....

HTL wrote

And you can eliminate the first 2 or 3 and still keep your hair for only $18 a month

So if push comes to shove, u still pay $18 a month (if u decide to get on the regime). Do some more research on alternatives and best of luck.

Being 18 and taking Finasteride without a doctor supervising you is not a good idea. Have a Doctor monitor you.

gah, i was kind of thinking along the same thought...

what if i go to her and she doesnt recommend Finasteride? it'd be a waste of 60$, if she just wants me on rogaine or the like, i could get that without a prescription :freaked2:

That is just to young to use without being constantly supervised. If I was under 21 I would want blood work done every few months to make sure my hormones were ok.

Just my opinion, I could be wrong.

I am 27 and I am going to have my hormones check when I have my physical done next month. I am having no problems with finasteride, but I still want it checked just for peace of mind.
