So I can finally admit it to myself, my hair is clearly thinning. I have been using rogaine for 7 monthes now and the only visible results I see are an increase in body hair (Is this normal).

My hair is clearly grows faster on the sides than on the top and the hairline is receding and very thin.

My mom is a doctor and she would be very willing to prescribe me any medication I want she is just a little worried that I am young to be put on a medicine that I would take daily for the rest of my life.

Has anyone had any success with propecia after rogaine failed you miserably (especially talking to the younger guys) Please let me know I want to start as soon as possible.

propecia will maintain for you, rogaine is a growth agent so they do two different things

definitely get on propecia and bank on the fact it wont be lifelong as new and better treatments and *whisper* a cure! :woot: might turn up!

you have a valid point, how close are we to actually finding these new treatments/"cure"?

does anyone have ANY reason why I as an 18 y/o should NOT start propecia

Take propecia maintain your hair and use concealer if you have to and enjoy your life! Your young and by the time your 25 there will be HM so don't worry too much and just MAINTAIN until then... Also the rogain will help you regrow some hair as well... I think you will be fine if you follow the Big 3.... remember the game is to maintain maintain maintain until there is a real solution and at your age your in a perfect position to do so... dont waste time as time is your enemy!

If I had my time over I would of started Propecia at 14. I bet if I did I would still have all my hair and my juvenile hairline still intact!

Old thread however I am curious with your results. I am 18, currently have receding hairline and thinning crown. I have been doing extensive reading on the side effects of Propecia and am quite unsure as whether it is the best thing to do. I am quite sexually active, and to be honest, these side effects are very disturbing. What is the general consensus?

My god, I'm shocked, you guys must be really unhealthy under propcia, even if you don't notice it, I bet you are weaker than you would be without this poison. There is no age to start propecia... lol in fact noone should ever use it, I'm not even sure for the Proscar old people take. I would not advise you to take it, read the horror stories on the internet, you'll make up you mind quickly :)
For every horror story, there are a hundred+ other people who had no side effects and don't feel the need to post on hair loss forums.

He suggests us to take about 5 times higher daily dose of vitamin A. :hump:

Hypervitaminosis A occurs when the maximum limit for liver stores of retinoids is exceeded. The excess vitamin A enters the circulation causing systemic toxicity. Betacarotene, a precursor of vitamin A, is selectively converted into retinoids, so it does not cause toxicity.
Although hypervitaminosis A can occur when large amounts of liver are regularly consumed, most cases of vitamin A toxicity result from an excess intake of vitamin A in the form of vitamin supplements. Toxic symptoms can also arise after consuming very large amounts of preformed vitamin A over a short period of time. (See Polar-bear liver below.) The U.S. Institute of Medicine says that the Lowest Observed Adverse Effect Level (LOAEL) for vitamin A, when taken over an extended period of time is 21,600 IU.[2] Most multivitamins contain vitamin A doses below 10,000 IU, therefore multi-vitamins are unlikely to cause vitamin A toxicity when taken at their recommended dosages. But in high doses, its central nervous system toxicity can be enhanced by its lipid solubility because it is readily transported across the blood brain barrier and concentrated in the brain.[citation needed]
Vitamin A causes cells to swell with fluid; too much vitamin A causes them to rupture in hyposmotic environments, hence the toxicity. Toxicity has been shown to be mitigated through vitamin E (tocopherol), cholesterol, zinc, taurine, and calcium.[3] Cholesterol has been shown to prevent retinol induced golgi fragmentation.[4]

such a catch 21 situation theres proberly endless amount of guys that are saying wish I started on propecia when I was 18... may have had a chance by now at least.

You do have to catch it early and the issue is it can be all but gone within weeks.. I had alot of hair volume so when when I noticed between turning 19-20 I was wondering why my hair was getting less shiny and less thick and long... I just thought it was me becoming a manly man with a mature hair line...

Boy was I wrong! By 23 m8s were calling me front baldy cos they could see my skull... ignoried it for almost 6-7 years before it became all but too obvious by then starting on the big 3 was too late.

If anything if your not sure what to do... id say adding a small amount daily or one tab over few days to start off with as well as using nizoral shampoo maybe a good start !
