19, hair thinning on top - best treatment for me?

My hairline begun to recede shortly after my 18th birthday in December 2014, but only very slightly such that nobody noticed, and there was no noticeable change for about 8 months.

After beginning university in October 2015, as well as a general increase in the extent of my receding hairline, my hair has been continuously getting thinner, and individual hairs occasionally fall out. Whenever I pull a comb through my hair, at least two or three hairs end up on the comb. I still have a full head of hair and you cannot see my scalp unless wet, but it is the continuing loss which is worrying me.

What is the best treatment for me? Minoxidil seems the obvious choice, and I have the 5% foam, but I am worried about the shedding - just how bad is the shedding stage, how long does it typically last for and roughly when will the regrowth overtake the loss of hair by shedding? And just how likely is it to work for someone like myself in the early stages of hair loss? Should I be using it in conjunction with other treatments?

Oh and also, if I were to apply minoxidil to a particular area of my scalp, would the shedding only occur here, or would it occur all over the scalp? I'm not entirely sure how the product works.

Thanks

minoxidil will cause initial shedding, but make sure you keep on top of applications and try not to let it distress you too much.
In time you'll see results.
If you're concerned hop on finasteride.
finasteride + minoxidil = success

I'm on the same boat as you.:salut: Just started using Minoxidil yesterday. Maybe I'm too paranoid, but there was a little bit more hair on my pillow this morning than on the days before using Minoxidil. I was told by my Doctor that there would only be a 40% chance of Minoxidil working for me. Hair will not shed on areas where you are not applying Minoxidil to. Anyway, if Minoxidil doesn't halt your hair loss (after 3 months), consider Propecia. My Doctor said those who didn't benefit from Minoxidil turned to Propecia and Propecia worked for them. Remember to consult a doctor before taking Propecia.

Oh and shedding typically lasts for a month. It might be more though. I've read that some continue to shed for a year, don't know how true that is.

So will finasteride and minoxidil as a combination most likely not cause shedding while still getting the benefits of minoxidil? I think I'll do this, not too bothered about the side effects.
