Hi everyone,

I am 19 years old and for the past few years my hair has been falling out. Recently I have had family members take notice of my hair and I decided to buzz it. Now I feel like the hair loss/thinning is even more noticeable and I am getting really scared for people judging me at college...
I have read that male pattern baldness usually makes your hair fall out the most at either the crown or temples, but my hair is the weakest at the top middle of my scalp. I am wondering if this is even typical for male pattern baldness? If not, can it be due to a certain deficiency that I have? My father did some blood work on me and my iron was a little bit on the low side while my vitamin b6, b9, and b12 were very low (I will be getting injections for b12 and IV treatment for the iron very soon). My hairline has very little recession, if none at all.

Here are some pictures of my head:

My hair loss is literally the shape of the letter "I" :(

Low iron can cause hair loss, I would take photos every 3 months to compare, If you hair isn't thickening, then It could be male pattern baldness, It's also not uncommon for the hair to thin on top. I am 19 too and thinning on top as well.

Looks like male pattern baldness to me. Most people either diffuse all over or recede at temples. Looks like you are diffusing. Something like 95% of hairloss in men is male pattern baldness. Make sure you correct those low iron/vit levels but I'm not sure it will make much difference. Time to start thinking about treatment, you could thicken up what you have with minoxidil and finasteride if you're comfortable taking it.

Yeah seems like male pattern baldness. Go to a derm to make sure you have male pattern baldness (maybe it's something with your thyroid but don't count on it, it's very likely male pattern baldness).

Then start finasteride and minoxidil. This way you have a good shot to keep what you have right now for a while and possibly to thicken it up.
