Hi everyone,

I am 19 years old and for the past 1-2 years I have been losing my hair. Most of the times I have been losing my hair on the top of the head, but more recently I have been losing it all over the sides and even on the back of my upper neck. My neck hair loss is getting a lot more extreme, which makes me think that the cause of hair loss is not the typical male pattern baldness. I lose well over 100 hairs in the shower and it is very depressing for me to be in college and lose this amount of hair. I am wondering is my hair going through DUPA, or the regular male pattern baldness? If it is DUPA, is there anything different I should be doing in terms of regimens compared to if I had male pattern baldness? I am thinking of just buzzing it really short but I don't know if the diffuse thinning will show. I am just very depressed currently and I can't focus anymore in school because of my stupid hair. My grades are dropping and I just don't know what to do anymore :(

The pictures of my dry hair are posted below in an album:

Thanks guys

Any inflammation/itch/discomfort ? Get an appointment with a dermatologist specialized in hair loss and scalp diseases.

Your hair does look thin, and although it may be male pattern baldness, it's better to be sure. I was diagnosed with a rare scalp disease a week ago by a specialist, that my previous dermatologist had never been able to identify, so find the right doctor.

If he says it's male pattern baldness, ask about finasteride and minoxidil.

Thank you for replying, I really appreciate it.

I went to a dermatologist and she just told me I hadhttps://www.google.com/search?q=seb...ved=0CBsQvwUoAGoVChMI0qbG5fWEyQIVyDk-Ch2-5AHl seborrheic dermatitis due to my itch/inflammation and dandruff and prescribed me a 2% ketokonazole shampoo which did nothing for my head. My dad did tests on me and found out my levels of vitamin b12 and iron were low. I used to have A LOT of inflammation/itch/dandruff until I got vitamin b12 shots along with injections of iron. Even with these injections my hair loss is still accelerating. I will try to get another dermatologist meeting to just focus on my hair loss because my first meeting was just mainly focused on my itching/dandruff.

May I ask what scalp disease you were diagnosed with? And what did your dermatologist say to do about your disease?

Folliculitis decalvans, he prescribed an antibiotic called Minocycline and another one which I don't remember now. It looked like basic diffuse thinning with inflammation so it was hard to diagnose.

I also use a sulfate-free shampoo which really helps with inflammation : I alternate between an anti-dandruff shampoo and a sensitive scalp shampoo (Vichy).

If it itches in the evening, I apply a zinc sulfate lotion on my scalp which immediatly soothes the itch (Ducray).

The first one 6 times a day for two weeks (it's something like Rifampicin).
Minocycline I have to take once a day for six months, and repeat treatment if necessary.
There should be improvement after a few weeks, fingers crossed.

Hello, just to recap, I am a man and have DUPA hair loss (or female pattern hair loss), diffuse hair loss and thinning (back, sides and top) which started 3 years ago after an episode in my life where my alimentation was very bad and had nutrient deficiency for sure. After fixing my alimentation properly my hair are still shedding and thinning all over.

Since 8 month i only take 1mg finasteride / day (no reduction on my hair loss), cb0301 30mg topicaly with no reduction on my hair loss, Biotin (10mg/day), spearmint tea (4 cup/day to reduce free testosterone), Flaxseed (30 g/day to reduce testosterone)

Here is a complete blood test that I have done 3 weeks ago. It would be great if some of you may highlight some issue in it and maybe propose corrective action as he might help others with similar hair loss.

From my perspective, I think I have low zinc, low vitamin d, high prolactin level, high cortisol level and maybe iron deficiency as we can have it according to study even with normal level of blood iron.
