hey,

first I started with 1,25mg finasteride... nothing changed... still had scalp itching and hair loss... probably less than I would have without fina... but I still had it... after some month I raised the amount to 2,5mg... no change... and finally 2 weeks ago I've started taking 5mg finasteride... aaaand... I have no more scalp itiching... thats cool, but I lost lots of hair anyway...

so... in 2 weeks my dutas arrive... and I'll start that (4x week 0,5mg) to regrow some hair...

good luck to you all!

5mg is five times the recommended dose, that cant be good for you. thats like taking 10 paracetamols in one go

5mg actually is not that bad. some people will say 2 weeks is to short to know caused what. i still think dutas is the way to go. but if you are going to get any side effects, and respond well to propecia, it is better to be on the propecia.

Oh, horseshit. I don't know why people make such a big deal out of finasteride doses, which are rather arbitrary in the first place.

In early testing of the drug, volunteers took 80 mg/day for several months with no harmful effects at all (I had previously reported that as 50 mg/day, but I got the number wrong...I recently consulted the PDR again for some other reason, and noticed that it was 80 mg/day, not 50 mg/day).

Finasteride is safe and effective over a HUGE range of doses. I wouldn't even blink an eye over taking 5 mg/day.

how much DHT from 5ar2 is inhibited at 80 mg/day? are there any graphs with different finasteride doses? i saw some, but I don't know where they are now. I guess it does not matter since it costs more than dutasteride for the same effects.

Finasteride is not known to causes liver dammage. it is not considered hepatoxic. the prscribing physician will not even bother with liver functions workups

My prescribing physician did bother with some blood tests to test liver function prior to letting me get on Propecia.

I would, cause the S*it's expensive. What's the point of 5 mg per day though, if 1 mg is 80% as effective?

if the generic is $30 like i heard, it is not that expensive. for some people it can mean the difference between losing hair and maintaining.

one local pharmacy Avodart every 5 days is just as strong as the proscar and cheaper. you just need a short loading phase to get it to steady state sooner.

Correction. Before treatment yes, as an ongoing part of finasteride therapy no. Finasteride does not cause liver problems.

I took 1.25 for years and had very bad sides. I have since been taking 1mg for close to a year now and i feel like my estrogen lvls are coming down some. I know 100% my libido is a thousand times better. I cant imagine if i was to take 5mg a day.

I hope you take this in the right way, but I think it's all in your head. If you were to test yourself in a blinded fashion, I think you would eventually agree with me.
