2 week mark

So yesterday marked 2 weeks on Propecia for me.

Only side effect has been the shedding. Honestly wasn't loosing even half this before taking the drug and even my hair loss wasn't very noticable then or a big deal. Is it worth continuing with it with no guarantee this extra shedding will result in regrowth or cut my losses now after 2 weeks and prevent this continual daily shedding cycle?

Its hard to want to stick with this if my life was more normal without propecia.

its a tough decision. propeica is a minimum 1 year commitment and its a rollercoaster ride.

you have to be prepared to deal with shedding and the possibility that your hair might get worse before it gets better. individual results vary with propecia and some people have great success, some do not. there is no gaurantee that it will work.

the only way to know is to try it for yourself. if you are sure that you can commit for a year and ride out all the tough times then go ahead and continue. if not, its best to stop now and exlpore other options.

The concept of shedding is rather controversial. It might be more an illusion from obsessive monitoring rather than a fact. In any case, you will probably continue to lose hair as before for the first few months.

What IS fact is that Propecia helps (nearly?) everyone to some extent. Most regrow some hair, nearly everyone at least maintains what they had, and the rest probably lose LESS than they would have had they not taken it.

Dude i'm sorry but you need to do some research before asking dumb questions. If you are shedding there is very little chance propecia has caused it. I mean two weeks thats just silly. You can't give up the drug after two weeks, like the guy said in the previous post its rollercoaster ride and you've gotta ride it out for a year min.

Sorry if i've come across as a bit harsh.

"dumb questions"

Yeah, that is a bit harsh.

He just came to these forums yesterday, for God's sake. Give him a break.

Uni student, it's totally cool.

Chances are you haven't even had a shed yet... You're hairs are probably ending their cycle and are about to start regrowing again.

Propecia shedding occurs off and on for about a year. Most people get sheds around 6 weeks after starting a hairloss treatment. At month 3, you should notice that your shed has stopped, and you will probably start to regrow in density then.

If you have been prescribed Propecia, then you have a good reason for taking it. So take it! It's not going to do you any harm, and at the least it will slow down your hairloss. But because you've started early, you are more likely to get great results.

In my opinion, keep taking it! It's the best medical treatment you got, right now.

Goodluck!

By the way, which University do you attend? I go to UNLV-- shittiest school ever. :)

Cheers. Go to Uni in Ireland.

Washed my hair last night and again this morning when I got out of bed. Had some hair wax in it which really irritated the crap out of me. Feel more relaxed when my hair is clean.

Got a question I forgot to ask.

I've a receeding hairline at the front but in regards the back of my head,i've thick hair so theres no problem there. Is propecia any use at all to me? I mean if i'm thick at the back of my head and i'm receeding at the front,is propecia beneficial?

There is alot more you can do for the front loss, take a look at my regimen.
Good luck

Woah....thats some regimen you've got there. Since propecia is known to not be good at regrowing hair around the temples, quite simply should I stick with it or choose something different?

Maybe I am the exception, but I am amazed that I now have lots of new dark proto-terminal hairs in the temples and widows peak area.
Did you consider laser?

unless you prove with pictures that your scalp is showing in 2 weeks it is not wise to drop propecia.
