Hi All

Just about to re-order my next 12 months worth of proscar (1.25mg a day). I've been taking one quarter proscar daily for about 22 months now.

Results? well strangley my crown appears to be fairing worse than my temples which have reacted well to the drug. That combined with Nisoral 2% and nanogen means I don't tend to worry to much these days. My hair is definatley in better condidtion, more body etc which i've attributeed to the drug.

I do have a question regarding the side effects thought. Fortunatley, i've not experienced any side effects (that I am aware of anyway) but my GF
and I wantt to start a family in the next 12 months.

If my sperm has been affected by the drug (i can't honestly say i can tell), will the negative effects of the drug go away if i stop taking it?

I've looked at the research from the official website that suggests that it will indeeded return to normal if i cease taking the drug butwas hoping someone could confirm that I am reading it correctly.

Thanks all

You can start a family while taking finasteride. There are no safety concerns about the effect on a male foetus of the miniscule amounts of finasteride transmitted through semen. Labelling was adjusted to remove warnings.

Sperm count is a different matter. Finasteride and dutasteride both reduce sperm count, though generally not to a degree deemed "clinically significant" (i.e. not >30%). Sperm count will recover after you cease taking either drug. Presumably recovery from dutasteride-induced sperm reduction will take longer, given dutasteride's longer half-life.
