I'm taking finasteride for 2,5 years now and never shed any hair. After about 2 years, (on winter) i started shedding hair, first i thought it was because it was winter/spring time, now it's summer and i'm still shedding.
I'm also taking minoxidil topical 5% ( twice a day) and washing my hair with the calming hair shampoo (3x week) (i don't recall the name).
The question is am i shedding or loosing hair?
Is it possible to shed hair after two years of finasteride?
Is it possible that the fiansteride is not working anymore?
The fact now is that i can notice, after these 6 months of shedding, i have less hair.

I would wait it out a few months and monitor it, then add something if need be do not be too hasty.

Is there any change that you have done?

It can be:

- New drugs added to your regimen (they don't need to be hairloss related)

- Hormonal changes (maybe jack off too much)

- Or even diet, stress, and sleep (although for me not as important).

For example the next day I use accutane, I inevitably shed hair, then after I stop taking it and the shed is gone.

We currently do not have a wide range of information as to why finasteride/dutasteride can suddenly "stop working", it is speculated that some other mechanism/s could be involved. Currently there's research on PRLR so it's worth to keep an eye on not being sexually over stimulated as it causes an upregulation detrimental for your hair growth.

Descended Dog,
That's interesting, the only thing I can remember is I started having my breakfast with a tablespoon of 100% cocoa.

Well it's been nearly 6 months and I now notice that my left forehead and up to to the middle of the head has now muss less hair and I can see the scalp.
So for me it's good enough and i started 0.5mg dutasteride once a week.
I'll wait between 2 and 4 months to see if the hair stops falling otherwise I'll add another 0,5 to the week.

Descended Dog,
We currently do not have a wide range of information as to why finasteride/dutasteride can suddenly "stop working":
My finasteride regimen stoped working after 2 years.
I don't know if it stoped 100% or any other percentage, because before I started finasteride I was loosing hair then when started finasteride the hair stoped falling, I just don'r know how long it took to stop falling.
Anyway, to the point, what I'm looking for now is if DUSTASTERIDE AS THE SAME REACTION, I MEAN WILL IT STOP WORKING EVENTUALLY?
I found out through literature, that finasteride works a higher percentage the 1st year, then less the second and it goes down till the 5th. In my case I had the first 2 year great, the beginning of the third I started shedding hair and after 6 moths I'm more bald.
