Hello so since the start of the year I've been monitoring my hairline, my dad started aggressively balding in his early 20s. I took pictures of my temples every month and saw that my right temple is receding slightly every month, leaving a small area of miniaturized hairs, and when I first noticed this I shat my pants and got super anxious, told myself maybe I was maturing and so on but I was probably just in denial. Friends and family all think I'm crazy since my hair is still thick (although right side feels thinner now) but as we all know people around you really don't know a thing about this topic.
I think I caught it very early, so I booked a meeting with a doctor through the phone and he prescribed me finasteride, he didn't mention anything about bloodwork or side effects whatsoever but I am of course worried about that. I told myself a few months ago that when my left temple also starts to move, I'll take action, because I've read that for some people it just stops on its own, but I also just want to just take finasteride and forget about hairloss and keep living my life. Also, my skull is shaped like someone ran into the back of my head with a semi (flat) lol so I really want to avoid going bald!

I have some questions regarding finasteride:
- Should I have bloodwork done before taking it? My sex drive is already on the low end for some reason right now.
- If you would to get gyno, would it go away on its own after you stopped finasteride?
- How effective is it for people with aggressive balding? I feel like my right temple is going at an alarming rate, and I'm only 20.
- Is it too early to hop on finasteride? Maybe you'll also think I'm crazy and I should wait, tell me If so.

Attached are some pictures, all from today. Maybe you guys don't see any recession but trust me, my right temple has thinned out and moved back a little bit which is noticeable if you compare to the start of the year.

I would really appreciate some advice, should I wait or not? Again, I think I've caught It early but maybe it'll stop? Thank you all.

You caught it early enough. I would start on finasteride at that level. Due to your family history, you mostly likely have the balding gene.

Based upon Bayesian analysis of your situation, I agree that it is highly likely that you got stuck with the MBP gene.

Damn. Any chance of it stopping you think? Obviously you don't know me but I've seen you a lot in this forum, and I'm kind of inexperienced on this topic and you probably know a lot more than me. Any harm in hopping on finasteride? What I'm most worried about is it affecting libido, since mine is pretty low as standart at the moment. Thanks!

I believe that T manages libido and erectile capacity and guess what? T can go up by a fair amount when using finasteride/Duta. Even for MtF's finasteride/Duta can raise T levels by 30 units. You have to inform yourself ultimately about other sides but I have never experienced any sides on finasteride or Duta to the point, that I can't tell that I am on it. It also largely provides maintenance instead of regrowth but regrowth is possibl in the crown, although technically I doubt that this is regrowth and actually more likely due to increased anagen levels which can spoof hair regrowth without increasing hair counts.

I went on finasteride and then Duta without a moment's hesitation and thank Goddess I did because I had 30 something years of excellent maintenance and at least high fringe and a fair amount of active follicles on top to work with. Younger guys like you might see more significant regrowth but for the rest of us, male meds are mostly for maintenance and hey, we used to have nothing back in the 80's so I still think of it as wonderful to have minoxidil which probably seems as though it has been around forever among the younger guys.

Wow that’s great, so you maintained for 30 years?? All I’m looking to do at the moment is just maintain because it hasn’t gone bad yet I think. What do you think is the optimal dosage? Would beginning with a small dosage every other day and ease into it be better? Thanks!

“just to give people sh*t” exactly.

because people who are balding or are bald have a very shitty personality from what ive seen. Judging everyone hair even stalking people fb or other social media accounts just to look at someone hair then share it without the person consent. Ive seen It all my friend.

Your not even criticizing his hair but his f*****g forehead. You are just simply mean, searching some place out of the internet to let your rage speak. Get out

Slow titration upwards is virtually always the best way to introduce a med. Yes, I only very, very gradually worsened until around the age of 50 and then it started again so I tried different types of estrogen and it was too weak so finally I found an HRT combo that worked along with oral min: Here are before and after pics:
