Hello, I am new to this hairloss business. I am 21 yrs old with a NW2.5-3, and I believe I started to loose hair 2 years ago. Before starting the big 3, I usually loose around 100-150 hairs in the shower everyday. After starting the regimen, I am now loosing 200+ hairs.

I just did a 5 min scalp massage and counted more than 50 hairs! And that was after a shower. Also, I noticed alot of dandruff flake off my head after the massage. I have already been two dermatologists and said I just have male pattern baldness.

Is what I am experiencing normal or I am just an extreme case? I usually read that you guys normally loose less than 50 hairs everyday, even before starting any regimen. At this rate, I think I will be slick bald in 1 year!

Thanks for inputs guys!

i can't speak for minoxidil, but when i started propecia, i think during the second month or so (i can't remember anymore, somewhere around there) I went from losing my usual 70-80 in the shower, to 200 or so to, and that lasted a couple weeks and then stopped. The shed didn't have any real effect on my hair density though.

Now i don't even count hair in the shower, its no point. I lost way less hair now in the shower, thats for sure (i never find hair anywhere) but somehow my temple has managed to creep back a little. Go figure.
Stop counting the hairs, and just wait it out, if you don't get Gyno, you're fine :)

Minoxidil will most likely cause shedding, Propecia though is less likely to make you shed so many hairs. At my worst my hands would be covered with hairs, about 20, everytime I ran my wet hands through my hair, so I know how much it sucks. Just hang in there the shedding should be just temporary and will go away in a couple of weeks.

I doubt you have an extreme case of male pattern baldness, the younger you are when you first start losing your hair, in most cases, the quicker you will lose your hair. That is why it is very important to get started on a treatment ASAP when you first notice your hair is falling out.
