21 and finasteride?

What are your opinions on someone taking finasteride at age 21.

I'm currently NW2 with diffuse thinning on the top of my head.

I lift weights heavily 4-5x a week and am very concerned on the effects. I have read a lot of differing opinions on working out and finasteride, so it's hard to come to any decision.

My concern is that if I start taking it now, how long am I going to have to take it. If I want to keep my hair, it seems as though I'd have to take it for that long.

I recently just picked up Nizoral 1% and will be using that 2x/wk.

You're fine. Taking Finasteride might even supplement your workouts because Finasteride will increase your testosterone levels. I was prescribed finasteride at 19 when my hair was just becoming a little thin (only I could see the thinning)

Good start on the Nizoral.

You'll have to use Propecia for life to maintain results, or until something better comes out.

I would suggest talking to a dermatologist and maybe getting bloodwork done to see if it's a suitable medication for you.

Goodluck

Thanks for your replies.

How long have each of you been on finasteride and how satisfied are you with the results?

With you taking it at such a young age how did it effect your libido and mood, did you notice any gyno or side effects?

I was on finasteride 1mg for 10.5 months. Don't let this scare you, but when I was on treatment I had awful sexual side effects. Eventually, I have an awful shed at around month 9, then I switched to Avodart 1.5 months later. I'm glad I did. I don't have any sexual side effects now, and the regrowth properties are good.

As for finasteride (sorry about my tangents), I experienced maintenance and little regrowth. No gyno, just low libido. Impotence for 3 months... It went away, but it sucked.

I was thinking about starting at .5mg finasteride. Although in studies they say like 3.4% or something receive those side effects, based on the replies I see here, it seems like much more. I rarely read about a person with no side effects from finasteride.

People with no side effects and benefits don't post on these forums. They don't really need to.

My friend, I'm sorry to have scared you, and I know there are a lot of people out here to scare others.

Finasteride is a proven safe drug, and you can discontinue treatment at anytime. Of course, everyone's experience differs, but in all, I would suggest trying treatment. Try looking at the success stories part of the forum. You'll find loads of great stories about people who have reversed their hairloss. You don't really see them around on these forums anymore.

Hey man, I'm 22 and have been on finasteride for 5 1/2 months now and I've had ZERO sides...my libido is as good as ever (I've actually had some of the best sex of my life when I've been on finasteride).

Sides happen, but they're rare. The odds are in your favor.

Yea I understand that. I just had a friend who within the first 2 weeks of taking it experienced a horrible change in mood, it was extremely odd. He discontinued treatment.

Well, thanks for your input and if you can think of anything else to tell me, let me know. My progression is much worse than yours, haha.

I'll be in Vegas tonight, dawning my hat as usual :p.

I wish I could tell you more.
I live in Las Vegas, and I have to fcking@#$@# work tonight! This is so bad. I mean, I'm 20 years old, ready to get laid, and I have to work on the mother of all nights.

Have fun tonight CJ, and f*** your hat. Get drunk, meet some hot biatches, and have a good time.

Anyone else have opinions?

I talked to someone this weekend who has been on Propecia only for the last 7 years and had great results with no sides, that was reassuring.
