Well I'll be 22 years old in a couple of months. I had always had very thick hair up to my 18th birthday. I first noticed hair loss after ending my
Accutane (isotretinoin) treatment. I remember having a lot of scalp itch when out in the sun, I would go into the bathroom and brush my hair
and I would see a lot of hair fall. Hair loss wasn't a issue for me as I had a lot of hair and didn't put importance to it.
I first remember my hairline receding a bit during freshman year of college (18 years old) From what I remember,
I always had an uneven hairline, one side was higher than the other. Now the hairline was becoming even.
I thought I was just reaching my mature hairline. Then a semester later I noticed some thinning in the vertex but it was only noticeable when
my hair was wet so I ignored it.
Then at 19 I noticed a small part of my hairline (middle of hairline) start to thin. It was just that area. Though it wasn't noticeable with spiky hair.
At this point my hair was still very thick but maybe lost a bit of fullness, not much imo.

Things started getting ugly when I turned 20. I started to Notice thinning on my left (temporal angle)? I think thats the name to it. So now i was thinning Vertex,
Left temporals and a bit and the hairline. So I started styling my hair in a combover way and one couldn't tell I was thinning. Then again
I still had very thick hair everywhere else on the scalp.

Then at 21 years old, my vertex thinning became very noticeable. Now my Left and right temporals began to thin and I noticed severe thinning of
my temple peaks/temporal points.

I panicked and got on Finasteride. I've been on Finasteride for almost 3 months now and I've been shedding a lot for the past 2 months. The shedding has
been so bad that my hair looks very thin. I'll be getting a buzz cut tomorrow cause I can't stand how thin it looks. Hair looks worse than before starting.
Ive been on Minoxidil for about 1.5 years but I haven't been very constant with my application until these past 4-5 months.

So far I've seen no improvements except for my Temple Peaks/temporal points. They have recovered some but are still weak compared to the
rest of my hair on the sides. I believe Minoxidil is responsible for it.

What I have noticed since starting Finasteride is my facial hair thickening up some. Ive always had patchy cheeks and wispy mustache. Now
it looks much darker and getting new growth. Some vellus hair here and there.

MY REGIMEN TODAY:
Finasteride 1.25mg every day
Minoxidil foam 5% 2x a day Every Day
Nizoral 1 % and Ketoconazole 2% shampoo I bought in Mexico. I alternate between them each week. M W F

This photo was the first week I started finasteride. you can see my weak temple peak comported to the hair on my sides. Today, they're a bit better.
The shedding is killing me though.

Just keep sticking with it, I made the same mistake of thinking it was a "mature hairline" I hate when people say that. The shedding will eventually die down.

Quick Update

I think I have DUPA, any thoughts?

The shedding has decreased. Im seeing some very small hairs sprouting around my temples. Nothing major though.

Facial hair keeps getting thicker which I do not mind at all.

If you're shedding worse than when you were not using finasteride then it's a good sign. If you're shedding the same as before without much difference then I have to say it's not working.

Thanks for the input guys. I'll be getting a haircut tomorrow
And will post new photos.
The reason I think I might have Dupa is that I've noticed
That my sides are becoming thinner, around the ears. The sides are still very thick compared to my top but it's thinning
In some spots IMO.

I definitely started shedding worse after starting finasteride.

What sucks is that I'm the only guy thinning on both sides of my family. My dad is nw2 with super thick hair.
Oh well, I'm optimistic the big 3 will help.

Well here's a quick update guys. I'm noticing some regrowth on my hairline. I switched to Liquid Minoxidil 5% (Equate brand) and been using it for about 5 weeks. I've also been applying a bit of Retin-A 0.05 to my hairline. Not sure if Retin-A is helping and considering dropping it.

Liquid Minoxidil is not so bad but I hate the white flakes/white residue it leaves on my scalp.

Did your shed stop? Im kinda in the same spot as you. Used minoxidil for 1.5 years and now added finasteride. How long have you been using retin-A? Why did you start?

Hey, my Shedding diminished but it seems like im starting a new shed cycle. I've been using Retin-A on my hairline for like a month. I've read posts where they say Retin-A may help minoxidil absorption. I do use Retin-A for my acne scars so I figured experimenting retin-a on the hairline.
