Hi guys,im back again. This is what my hairline looks like after a journey of 5 months on finasteride. My temples seem to be still receding, but my crown got thicker, thats it. Not big improvements,to be honest. What are your thoughts?

Im really disappointed that my hairloss is till progressing

Idk if it is actually worse, doesn't look like so to me iirc, but you know your hair the best so what do I know. I'm kinda scared of finasteride not working for me as well.

I know you won't believe this but it looks the same. You are not getting worse. If you feel you are that is your perception.

Not sure if that's the hairstyle you daily use, a man bun, but if it is, I would advise you change hairstyles.

Simply because having your hair pulled back like that can cause quicker hair loss via Traction Alopecia. Also, as your hairs get thinner, which typically starts at the hairline for many people, pulling those hairs back tightly can cause them to come out more easier, possibly even from the root.

Also, I haven't seen your other photos but there is a possibility that you could just have a "maturing hairline" and not Male Patterned Balding (Androgenetic Alopecia).

I grew my hair for 1y and 10 months. I got somewhat attached to it at this point. I try to do a loose manbun,to avoid traction alopecia. if i let my hair loose,it just got into my face when im out, working etc,so thats why i use a manbun. Also the heat in my country is terrible. But i was thinking about gettng a haircut really soon either way

I agree with House and Micky. I've also been following your posts since you started writing in this forum and your hair seems to be in the same state to me, or maybe a bit thicker. You may want to try to find a trichologist who could do a scalp biopsy for you to see if you have hair loss or not, if you can afford it and that is available in your country. Wouldn't expect to see any regrowth or thickening from finasteride till the year mark at least, if any (Remember that finasteride's mostly for hair loss prevention and stabilization). And congrats on not getting any sides from Finasteride, that is a big win!

In any case, your hair looks very good to me and I'm not even sure if you have hair loss or not. Analyzing your family's history would be good too if you haven't done that already.

I feel its a bit thicker, but when it gets a bit sweat,it thins out, which bothers me a lot. It thins out on the hairline and midscalp, but not at the crown and back

My 33yo brother is a NW3 with diffuse in the front, and my father was a NW3 by his 30's as well.

These 5 months went by fast,im looking forward for the 1 year mark. There is no trichologist in my town,i live in a small town in brazil(countryside).

Wet hair or hair with products on it can be very deceiving, so I wouldn't guide myself from that. My 54 years old Norwood -1 dad looks like he is diffusing at the front when he has wet his hair and applied gel on it (Think Ron Perlman hairline) but he has the most insane density and a Norwood -1 hairline.

I get your concern about hair loss then. It doesn't seem to be that aggressive on your paternal side though, and you've started treatment very early so you will probably remain in a good spot for years, or decades. The maternal side of the family is very important too.

Yeah it's going to be in your best interests get a much shorter haircut, because it's the best way to get a true idea of the extent of your hairloss, even for a medical professional who tries to diagnose your potential hairloss.

Having long layered hair can often give people a false sense of security and they only start to notice hair loss or thinning far later than they could have if they had a shorter haircut.

Also, having shorter hair makes it a lot easier to apply topical treatments to your scalp and it's a good way to avoid wastage of topical treatments like Minoxidil from getting stuck at the tops of your hairs instead of the roots of your hairs.
