So been taking finasteride for 4 years now. Have not been lucky enough to get regrowth but finasteride seems to have maintained pretty well. I’m a diffuse thinner which makes it difficult to compare across the years. My hair loss genes are pretty aggressive id say so I’m not sure if 1 mg finasteride will hold me out. I also use minoxidil once daily.

I attached some pics to see what do people here think? Is my hair getting worse? Sometimes I feel like it is but my hair can look significantly better or worse depending on light. Also my hair is long right now and I’ve noticed it looks worse when it’s long.

first pic is from 2018, the 2nd and 3rd pic are from today but one is in bad light the other is in good light. Obviously I am not to happy about this as my hair looks pretty bad in these pics. In particular that first pic I took today... just brutal. Feel like I’m basically bald at this point. I’m hoping it’s just cause my hair is to long right now but .. I don’t know. I’d appreciate any feedback if you think it’s getting worse or not. Also not sure how far away I am from having to shave it. I feel like finasteride won’t keep my hair forever given my genetics. Not sure what else I can do at this point as I’d rather not do any extreme treatments.

Looks like you have super thin hair, doesn't it? Otherwise it seems good to me

Yea I agree. But if it’s super thin that would mean it doesn’t look good, lol. Until this point no one has noticed my hairloss in real life but I’m afraid it’s pretty noticeable now.

Looks good to me, I doubt most people would see that as balding. The first picture from 2018 seems to have been taken under harsher lighting than the other two, thus making thin areas appear worse. Your hair at the second pic looks better to me than in the first one from 2018. Long hair tends to emphasize recession in my opinion, though. If you feel like you're not doing enough for your hair you could start using minoxidil twice daily or maybe add dutasteride once or twice per week. Microneedling and or tretinoin could also help.

Thanks for the response. Yea it’s hard to tell with diffuse thinning if it’s getting worse or staying the same. My hair is currently the longest it’s ever been and I know my hair tends to look worse when long so I’m hoping that’s why. I’d be fine with maintaining my hair I just want to make sure it’s not getting worse. I’m kinda afraid of taking dutasteride but if that’s what I takes it could be worth it. I should also do minoxidil twice a day but I hate how it feels / looks in my hair so I only do it before bed.
