On my mothers side of the family all of my uncles are pretty much as bald as can be, but on my fathers side all of the men have a full head of hair. My dad is a nw1 at age 66; I however on the other hand have not been very blessed in the hair department.

From the looks of it I am already losing it I've always had a rather large forehead but I'm still certain that I will follow in my uncle's footsteps in a few years.

So from the pictures below what norwood would you guys classify me as? I said around a nw2 - 2.5. I want to maintain this for as long as possible before I have to get a hair transplant. Let me know what you guys think!

Would you say you have noticed any changes since being on finasteride? Any pictures of your hairline when you were younger?

From the looks of it your hairline has almost finished maturing. You will notice that one side is not as deep as the other. It is very common to see one side mature faster, eventually the other one will catch up. Expect these messy looking hairs to eventually disappear to match the other side.

What really matters is the hairline across the top. It is natural for the corners of the hairline to be slightly less dense.

In this area, make sure you watch for short hairs that don’t seem to grow to full length anymore. That’s when you have a problem.

Based on your family history, I can definitely understand your worry. I don’t think you’re a NW2 just yet though, I think you’re still in NW1 territory.

Hello brother, I have checked photos of when I was younger and in highschool and I'd say my hairline was more or less the same except it feels like my hair is less dense now though, I also noticed that the right temple was always more recessed than the left. Something I have noted while on finasteride is that the left temple, the one you highlighted, those small hairs sprouted when I started finasteride as well as some in the middle of my hairline. Just a few hairs though.

I'll definitely continue the use of finasteride as its added slightly more density. Do you think thyroid problems affect hairloss? I have hypothyroidism as well.

If that's the case, you're actually regaining lost hair in the areas I highlighted, which is a good sign in terms of your responsiveness to anti-androgens.

I'll be honest, I'm not that knowledgeable about thyroid issues relating to hair loss, but I would guess that hair loss stemming from non-male pattern baldness ailments causes thinning all over the scalp, not just specific areas at the hairline and temples. So if you had widespread loss of density, not just on top, but on the sides and back of your head as well, I might be inclined to say it has something to do with thyroid. But your hair looks plenty thick everywhere else, so I'm guessing that's not the case.
