Hey all,

I am concerned that my temporal peaks are thinning. I tend to brush my hair to the side; when I do so, my peaks are very blonde, and almost imperceptible. However, when I comb them down, they are very prominent. I have attached a photograph of before when my hair was cut very short from around 8 months ago - I don’t see much change. What do you all think? Please bear in mind my hair is gray/blondish on the sides (always has been), I have also attached a photograph from when I was young to demonstrate this.

thanks guys

Grandfather’s bald in the middle on my Mum’s side, my father’s the same, as is his father.
Then you are at high risk for hair loss. I would closely monitor it and would consider starting a hair loss prevention regimen as soon as you feel like it. Chances are you will start losing hair around the same age of your father or a few years earlier. At your age if you start early enough you might not need a hair transplant at all or might end up needing one in your mid or late 30s. I don't see any hair loss from these pictures but I can't see your frontal hairline clearly in them. There's a video on youtube made by two australian doctors on a customized dosage of finasteride, in case you decide to start learning about it eventually. It is called "Customized Dosing of Finasteride" Many guys hop on straight to 1 mg everyday which isn't necessary for everyone and end up with side effects from taking too much or excesuve worrying over the possibility of side effects.

Thank you for taking the time to respond, I really appreciate it. It is difficult to take effective pictures of one’s hair, because they all seem to appear extremely thin. These are the best out of all of them. I expect it is impossible for a camera to add more hair, but it is surely feasible for it to take hair away! So I trust these photos are accurate.

My father went bald when he was the same age that I am now. My grandfather’s both went bald in their forties.

Well it seems that you are early right now so if you do decide to start a hair loss prevention regimen eventually you should be set for a while. Most people start once recession is clear or once thinning is noticeable under average lighting condotions, at which point anything from 35% to 50% of hair density may already have been lost. It is much easier to prevent further hair loss than to regrow that which you have lost.
