Hello, i am 28 years old and currently balding quite badly on the crown. I don't know when it started as i don't look at the back of my head very often! When it was pointed out to me by a friend a few months ago i decided to do something about it. Here is the regime i have decided upon.

0.5mg dutasteride every second day
Biotin.MSM. A-Z multivitamin daily
10mg oral minoxidil
5% topical minoxidil at night

Here is a pic, i made my hair as wet and bad as possible, tbh the lighting and camera flash make it look much worse than in real life i think, but regardless tell me what you think. Will i be able to get my old hair back again? or have i left it too late? :(

You're still within the realm of recovery. Most likely you won't get your old hair back though. Your regimen is sound and others have had results on it. It's just a matter of whether you respond well or not.

You shouldn't be rolling everyday with such a sharp needle. For daily needling you need to use a 0.25 mm roller.

Also move the nizoral to everyday, no reason not to, and move to 2%. Better yet get the nizoral cream and move to a piractone olamine shampoo.

Yeah i won't be dermarolling to inflict wounds, just increase absorption. i will also use nizoral everyday and report back in three months time. Wish me luck! :)

I'm also thinning as much as you are, plus a NW3 receded hairline (age 45).
Having been on Finasteride+Minoxidil for 2 years, I feel that there has been some minor cosmetic gain. Although some miniaturised hair darkened, they simply don't grow in length past 1.5cm and too sparse to have a huge impact other than making the scalp less shiny.
With the addition of dermarolling 1mm (3-4 times a week), I feel my scalp being healthier, less oily, and never itches anymore (except for the occasional recovery from needling). This is the 'improve absorption and stimulate blood-flow' approach I guess..whether it stimulated growth or even helped maintenance I'll never be able to quantify, as it's in conjunction with other treatments.
Recently I bought a mechanical microneedling device which works like a tattoo machine with fast action, with so much less pain. I'm now able to go up to 2mm depth weekly with the 'wounding' aim. I hope I'm doing it correctly! My scalp bleeds slightly and looks red for a couple of days, and fully recovers in a week max..I don't mind that red look, as it kind of hides the shiny scalp lol.
I guess in 6 months I'll know whether it added any value.

No but he could respond well and grow new hair that might resemble his old hair.....your first line contradicts its self don't you think

I've said nothing contradictory. Your comprehension is poor. He is still within the realm of having some decent recovery but it's close to unheard of to recover your juvenile hair.

Just to update for future reference, here is a pic of my hair when dry and not wet. Like i said i will update with both wet and dry photos in 3/4 months time. I heard it's at least 4 months to a year before seeing results. I have started finasteride and dermaroll my hair at night, just about 30 seconds to a minute or so, apply minoxidil and then do the same again.

I just use finasteride alone , but im 10 years older then you and i don't use minoxidil.

I can't use minoxidil because I have chronic hypertension.

With the mix finasteride/Minoxidil you will have a better result. What you need is
patient, patient and again patient. Wait minimum 1 year to see the result.

Here you can see my thread:

Good luck ;)

Just to update, been having major problems with my libido, so bad now that i can't even ejaculate properly. Going to try cutting the dose down to 0.5mg and see if that helps, no mental side effects noted.Ok from what i have read reducing to 0.5mg won't reduce side effects, so i will just continue onwards and hope the problem fixes itself.

The problem i was having was was due to other meds i was taking, no side effects from finasteride. Stopped minoxidil as it was causing bad skin, bloated face etc Expecting a shed from the minoxidil use, will update again soon.

My hair is longer than when i took first pic and looks a different colour when dry(lighting i think). I still think minoxidil did more damage than good, my crown area is extremely thin. Like i said in my last post i have stopped minoxidil because of side effects and expect a shed. Oh and im going to stop using nizoral, my hair is already extremely dry and nizoral is making it worse. Doesn't seem good at taking the wax and gel out of my hair either, not very good imo.
