Hi Guys,

29 year old in UK.

Hair has become thinner over the last 3-4 years also receding at the sides but at a ver slow rate over the last 6-7 years.

I don't know why it's happening.

Dad is 62 and has a full head of hair it's thinner than it use to be, but still no balding.

Bro is 35 and still has a full head of hair and it's thick!! it's like an afro after a shower also no receding at all going on.

What happened to me? 8O

(sorry about the black trying to hide lol)

Pics:

I have some gel in at the moment so that's not helping it!

Currently using Alpacine Caffeine shampoo for the last year and half which cleans it well and it makes it look thicker (or is that because it's just clean) also use the Alpacine Caffeine liquid after getting out of the shower.

Just bought some Nizoral this week as I read it's a good place to start to get my hair thicker or loosing more.

It's more the thickness of the hair that's annoying me than the receding part because the sides look awful when slightly long or even if it's greasy a bit.

Some advice would be appreciated please :)

Your hairline looks alright (slight recession but OK), it's just the thickness on the top that's the issue. Have you considered getting on Finasteride/Minoxidil?

Also, even if your dad/bro aren't bald, you can get the male pattern baldness-gene from someone else in your family. (How about your mother's side of the family?)

Erm her bros all had hair no balding. Not sure about her dad my grandad because I never saw him.

I read and heard that people with more body hair are have higher chance of hair problem.

I am very hairy all over the body wise but again bro and dad have nothing hair wise on body.

Is a higher testorone level play an issue? I workout a lot also lift weights.

I wanted to try the cheaper methods first to see if that helps then maybe think about medical stuff like the stuff mentioned.

I don't like taking stuff orally rather try stuff that's direct as in using shampoos and stuff.

Will using Nizrol do much or is it just the point of trying and seeing what happens.

If you want to keep your hair, then get on finasteride (proscar 5 mg quartered) ASAP, and if you want to regrow some hair, then get on minoxidil. If you do neither of these things then you will definitely keep losing hair. The longer you wait, trying cheaper and non medical methods, the more hair you will lose, and the less you'll be able to grow back if finasteride and minoxidil do work for you. Good luck.

I don't want to take any pills!! too much side effects plus i'm a hypochondriac so I think i end up having all the side effects!

I'm going to try Nizoral on it's own for couple of months and see what happens.

Then if nothing then i'll go the Minioxdil way.

Here are some pics after I washed my hair with Nizoral also followed up with a conditioner.

So this is what it looks like without grease and products in it.

Hair was nice and clean and felt good!

Look man, I'm not trying to be a *****, but every day you go without taking finasteride, is another day your follicles are being exposed to DHT. Why not try finasteride for a few weeks, it's the only way to know for sure if you'll have any side effects. If you have sides, then quit, no permenant harm done, and if you don't have sides (and most people don't), then you'll be using the most effective preventative medicine for hairloss, and the only clinically proven way of preventing the cause of hair loss. You can mess around with other stuff, but it's pointless, finasteride and minoxidil are the only treatments that are proven to work, you have VERY little chance of keeping your hair or regrowing hair without them, and the longer you leave it, the worse the prognosis is. Speak to a hairloss specialist if you don't believe me, but the best (or realistically the only) chance you'll have of keeping your hair is finasteride.

If it helps, I'm currently on day 10 of finasteride and not a single side in sight! I've told myself not to think about the negatives; I think some suffer may suffer from 'phantom' sides. As GoldenMane said, give it a try and see what happens!

Stay positive!

personally, if you aren't going to take finasteride, you might as well buzz your head to a number 1. it will look way better than what you have right now. A guy with thinning hair where you can see the scalp, is much less attractive than any buzz cut

I can't do the skin head due to work 8O

I try to have regula hair cuts around the side to keep it really short. and the top short.

QUESTION: i have really small "baby hairs on my temple" what are they about? you have to look close but there's hair there!

Lol...

Go back and read goldenmanes post, or those baby hairs will die and fall out... even if you look close

You could try an herbal form of dht inhibitor such as hairomega which is a multivitamin. I seemed to have maintained with no progression in loss with it, but as he said, finasteride is the most effective.

If you're totally opposed to finasteride, then you'll need to try a topical like Revivogen or S5 cream (or both since results are weak at best from them). Also consider RU, seems to be the most effective topical anti-androgen.

I recommend giving finasteride a chance. I've been on it for over two months have had nothing but positive side effects.

It's not balding it's just thin and lifeless! the side bits are not bad since...

I don't think I'm loosing hair because it's been the same for years now.

It's the thinness I want to try and remedy. If i don't cut my hair on the sides after 2-3 weeks you can see gaps!

I have been using Nizrol for around a month now, every other day.

Will still continue using it because it cleans my hair well :).

Is there a known way to just thicken hair?

Strange because on the front most part of my hair line I have random hairs growing on my forehead near the front hair line. why can't they be on the temple bits!

What I would recommend if you don't want to use Propecia is getting a minoxidil formula that also contains azelaic acid. Azelaic acid is a DHT blocker (same as propecia only applied topically rather than taken as a pill) and is something I've had very good success with for the last few weeks.

You can find minoxidil formulas with azelaic acid on eBay, Belgravia Centre website or you can buy Regaine Foam and use a cream that contains azelaic acid such as Skinoren.

If your hair loss bothers you a lot then I would recommend getting on treatments ASAP because it does seem like it's pretty advanced from those pics

Best of luck to you :)

Hi guys, Been a long while since iv'e been on here.

32 now 33 soon.

My hair is basically the same as in the pics.

I have been buzz cutting it for 6 months now over the summer months it was easier. Now iv'e started growing it back because it's cold lol

The thinning seems to be all over not just the normal top part.

I can also feel very small short hairs amongst the long ones there very sharp to the touch all over my head.

I've also been using Regenpure shampoo for the last 2 years.

Wondering if it's worth trying some Minoxidil see what that does?
