Hello everyone,

29 year old here and started finasteride treatment (1mg per day) 2 months ago. Completely understand it takes much longer to see any results but thought it would be worth posting about and discussing my progress with others in a similar situation.

Started noticing my temples receding slightly at 25 but was too worried at the time to take any medication for it and opted for better shampoos (Nizoral) and natural DHT blockers in the form of herbal supplements (saw palmetto etc)

However, as I’m sure many of you
know, I came to realise that such a minimal approach wasn’t going to do anything and the recession has only progressed.

I did try minoxidil but to be honest, I found the routine of dropping it in every morning and evening was a lot of hassle and caused me to just constantly worry and obsess about my hair. Obviously it’s good to be proactive but for me, it’s important to not allow this to impact my mental health too much.

Anyone out there have huge success with it? I may start using again in a foam form if I ever buzz my hair short, which would be much easier to maintain.

Not exactly sure where I would sit on the Norwood scale, perhaps a 2 or 3?

In terms of genetics, my fathers side all have incredible hair but it’s my mothers side where the males weren’t bald but definitely had defined recession patterns...from what I’ve read, it seems that us guys have a greater tendency to take on hairloss traits from the mothers side, so I just got unlucky.

I will most definitely get a hair transplant in the future but my gameplan for now is just to see how I go with finasteride and hope it slows it down. I’m realistic and not expecting any miracle growth but If I can at least prevent it from getting much worse I’ll be content for now.

One small positive is that the shedding (dropping of miniaturised hairs) appears to be less than before. Though i could of course just be imagining it.

So far I havnt experienced any side effects at all.

For anyone interested I have uploaded photos (covered face for privacy)

Feel free to comment or ask questions. Would be awesome to chat to others about this somewhat sensitive and frustrating topic.

All the best

You have Norwood 1.5, and unless finasteride did that for you I’d say your hair is great. But I guess preventative care is greater than the alternative so you do you

I know it’s not one of the most severe examples out there but my hairline used to be pretty flat, so the change is more noticeable to me. Thanks for the input anyway mate, appreciate it. 100% agree that prevention is key.
