Hi all, quick intro to those I have not yet met. I'm a 24 y'old with hairloss since 18. Gradually crept up on me from 18-21 years. Was in denial all along, parents knew but didn't want me to know...

Had an episode of high fever with no cause age 22, hair started to blow off head like saw dust after that. Was still in denial, had eczema, psoriasis and seb dermatitis in the months to follow. Then came uni and hairloss was out of mind for the next half year. Majorly stressed out by back to school phase, set myself up for a major freakout when the mid year break came. Looked in the mirror, jaw fell to the floor.

startltempleeu3.jpg

before start of treatment, norwood2. not entirely slick bald, but tiny 1mm hair shafts all over missing temples as well as hairline. been this way for 3 years. but decided to start treatment because I lost something like 3/4 inch of hairline over the last 4 months.

started off with 3 days minoxidil before I got on propecia, plainly because the first Doctor I saw refused to get me on propecia. Had to see a different Doctor. (2nd Doctor was norwood 7 bald himself and had more sympathy for me)

Stopped minoxidil after 1.5 months due to crazy facial hair growth and water retention. Hairs continued to grow without minoxidil, been off minoxidil for 1.5 months. They are 1 inch long now, but I noticed 2 of them fell out this morning. Thinking of replacing it with copper peptides next few days.

can anyone tell me if these are vellus hairs? I've some weird facial hair appear between my eye and sideburns. After stopping minoxidil, it's still there as well as the hair that came back with the hairline. Currently only on propecia and nizarol every odd day (started nizoral just last week...makes scalp feel great!), but am on the rocks whether or not to add CPs to regiment. I'm still a newbie to hairloss, advice will be appreciated!

dude that's a crazy regrowth on your forehead. It's good thing you stopped minoxidil or else you would be norwood minus 3 (where the hairline is attached to eyebrowns
anyway
looks like you may be good responder.

Thanks for the comments guys!
I guess I overdosed on minoxidil when I started out, used 1ml on the temples only for a whole week before cutting down to 0.5ml. Looked like a total fathead.... felt like I was high on alcohol the whole day.

I'm guessing a crap load got systemic, 'cos im getting a better cover on the top of my head if you compare pics, never applied minoxidil there. Started off as norwood 2 with diffused thinning in norwood 10 pattern (50% head density lost). Worse in both my sideburn areas, especially the right side up to my ears, about 70% lost.

Still awaiting a second blood test result, first one showed no thyroid problems.

hey, i'm in kind of the same situation as you (treatment wise). i started on minoxidil, and then i stopped that and now i'm on propecia. that is what you're doing right? or are you still using minoxidil now?

i have to say, those are great results, i hope to get a head of hair like yours or better soon. how long have you been on finasteride for? (i'll pm you this because chances are i wont remember what thread i viewed).

congratulations dude.

Thyroid? I think im missing something here... is not this thread about your regimen (propecia and minoxidil?)

why are you testing thyroid?

yes I've stopped it, just propecia and nizoral right now. about 3 months on propecia, I'm glad the sides went away. the watery ejaculate really was troubling.

thanks :), appreciate it! how long have you been off minoxidil yourself? I'd recommend tapering off treatment just to see if propecia is alright in your system. I didn't do that in my case 'cos I needed to stop stimulating the facial hairs asap.

if you're not too deep in the norwood stages, I'd guess you may be able to keep your minoxidil hairs since you're already on propecia.

good question bro, I've seen some tak of thyroid problems if you're loosing hairs in the safe zone. could also be adrenal fatigue, stuff like that accelerate male pattern baldness since we lack SHBG in those conditions.

well, i don't think i'm deep into the norwood scale just yet. in fact, i think my hair is very similar to yours at the moment (though a bit thinner on top).

i haven't tapered off minoxidil, i've just stopped altogether, it was too annoying. so far i don't think i have any sides (touch wood). though i am very paranoid about them. seriously, everyday i look at myself in the mirror to see if i have man-boobs, and everytime i get a hard-on, i touch to see how hard it actually is.

3 months on propecia ey?... let's hope you see a success story from me by then. congrats again bro.

I like the results. Nice regrowth.

Thanks Hawaii, saw your thread the other day. you're one of the finasteride only guys who give me a reason to drop minoxidil :) congrats on your returned hair btw!

Hey good luck with your switch person. lol, I do the same thing each time I get a hard on now.... I start thinking same length? thickness? then i start joining up fingers to measure

only part of my hair that i'm worried about now is my temple area. i hope finasteride restores the hair there.

hawaii male, you stopped minoxidil too? what happened? bad results? terrific restuls? and i agree, you look like your hair is covered in cobwebs and it feels brittle to touch. if you're going to have to have hair like that every day or not have hair, i'd pick to have hair like that, but it's still a nuisance.

question for you two minoxidil quitters.

if i apply minoxidil to "very thin" area's around my temple, just to get some regrowth. will finasteride maintain that area? i'm asking because it's better than nothing right? if i don't apply anything at all, finasteride will still do it's work anyway? if you don't udnerstand what i'm asking i'll rephrase it, but for now,i think that's inteligable.

hey Chris, man that's uncanny. :p is the greyish area new hairs?

you could try using the minoxidil dropper like inkjet printer, if you know what I mean, see if it helps. at least that's how i applied mine after noticing alot of it stick to my fingers on the first day. the tapping of my skin by the dropper agitated it a little... so i dont know if that's good or bad, or whether it made it go systemic in the first place. but it definately made less minoxidil get lost in my finger ruts. you could try use a surgical glove instead.

person, im just speculating but i think that depends on individuals to find out through experience. your dht levels may have lowered enough to keep your minoxidil hairs or it could not have. only you can find out.

ive a hunch mine will stay since i stopped getting scalp pain and hair stopped blowing off my head after i got on propecia. i will get my answer in another month.
