3 years of propecia: diminishing effects!?

Hi all,

I've been on propecia for about 3 years now. About half a year after I started taking it, I really noticed a big difference, i.e. my hair was much thicker and my friend commented on the better quality of hair.

However lately, like the last 3 or 4 months, the quality of hair is much lower. My hair has become thinner, although I did not noticed any sudden shedding. I was thinking that maybe somehow my body has become 'resistent' or so to propecia.

I'd like to hear experiences of other people taking propecia for at least a few years and if they experience the same diminished effect of propecia.

Thanks,
Jonathan

Using since October 1999

Jonathan,

I have been using Propecia since October 1999. I, unfortunately, had probably waited a little too long before trying it. However, I did grow most of my hair back. It is a little thin in front but much better than it had been prior to using the product. Because I have to pay for this product out of pocket (not covered in my health care program) I tried to reduce my dosage to every other day. That does not work. I began to notice a difference immediately. The warning that you will lose what you have gained when stopping the product is not an idle threat so I have gone back to taking it daily. There was a good posting on this site about getting your doctor to prescribe 5mg of Proscar and then cutting the pills to 1mg. I haven't approached my doctor yet, but that could produce some significant savings. Please see the article "Product Review - Propecia" on this site.

While I had never previously experienced any of the side effects that they warn effect 2% of the users, things have changed a little lately. I don't know if it is age related, I'm 54, or due to the 6 years of using Propecia.

I hope this information is helpful.

Patrick
