Hi,

I'm french so excuse my english mistakes.

I'm in a treatment with Propecia ( finasteride ) since 5 month, I am 17 and i started to see hairloss since a little before my 16 birthday. I started finasteride with the hope to maintain my hair ( i have very diffuse thinning , at first with no temple recession but now im going into a typical Norwood pattern with recession. I thin a lot in the vertex area , all over the top of my head to be realistic )
but now i'm 5 month in and i can say that my hair is way beyond baseline.

During the month i thought the aspect of my hair was improving ( more thick ) but i continued to shed , but since month 2.5 i have continue to shed ( i see that when i wash my hair , there is a lot in the shower. this is how i figure out about hairloss in the first place ) a lot.

But since a week or two , I notice a decrease in scalp itch. Indeed scap itch had become in the last year an horrible thing, I mean i was forced to wash them to get rid off the itch, but now i can stay 2 or 3 days without washing my hair and experience very little itch ( negligable compared to a few month ago )

However, when i wash my hair I still have plenty of hair falling out, but sometimes I think there is less than before , but i cant really tell ( placebo effect maybe )

Im very worried because every day i think that in a few years hairloss will ruin my life, especially my sentimental life ( today Im happy with my life but everyday I feel like its only temporary )
I feel that im very unlucky to deal with hairloss at 17 , that i normally would not have to deal with such problems at this age. This is ruining the idea that i have of my image.

I know 5 month on propecia isnt enough to tell if its working or not but i would like to know if the fact to experience less scalp itch is a good sign to tell that the drug is beginning to work and that my hair which fall out will decrease in the newt few months ?

Maybe im experiencing a normal propecia shedding but i fell very depressed not to know for sure.

Also, i have experience side effets from Propecia ( clearly a lack of focus on things, of concentration ) and sperm have become liquid.
I like to thing that having side effects mean that the drug is effective.
Thanks you for the answer

Your hair wont get any worse from taking propecia so there is no risk in taking it. Continue to take it for at least 1 full year before making a judgement. Also use nizoral shampoo.

Yes i know but i would like to know if the decrease in scalp itch means that soon i will experience a decrease or a stop in the hair loss process ?

Thanks for taking the time to answer me

yes the itch in youre scalp is the massive DHT atacking. Itch goes bye bye on finasterid and nizoral.
So that means it is beginning to work.
Thats a good sign, so give it at lees 1 year.

I used Propecia for nearly 3 years, and during that time my scalp itch never truly went away, but it did get better. Fortunately it was never really bad to begin with.)

I found Tricomin copper peptide spray helped with the itch for whatever reason, and I would recommend you get some. I would use it if I had the money. Also, use nizoral if you aren't. And eat healthy, that may help you not only wiht your hair loss, but may improve your ejaculate. The body needs good nutrition to work effectively, and I think it's foolish to discount this factor. Make sure you at least take a multi-vitamin and eat lots of protein. Good luck.

I damn hope you're English or German, because only they have the right to call the French wimps.. Napolean pretty much drilled everyone else, and besides.. This is a 17 year old dealing with a REALLY f*cked up thing! I thought I had it bad, and I'm 21 (almost)!

As for a real response.. Don't worry French dude, it's ok! Keep going, don't visit this site too much, try to concentrate on life, pop your pill, use Nizoral, try to get laid (come to Australia on a working holiday visa and you're pretty much guaranteed that!), etc, etc..
