After 6 months I can report I have 0 sides from the drug, but I also have no results from it.

Infact I’ve been shedding so much more lately that it scares me. After month 4 or 5 the shedding just broke out and got so much worse up till now. Pictures show my hairline & density is below baseline by quite a bit (im a diffuse thinner). People here tell me to wait it out till a year, but I’ve seen almost no posts w ppl experiencing what I am. I’m actually losing my hairline + hairs are coming out much thinner at the root. I can pull out 3-5 hairs everytime I run my hand through and virtually everywhere that I pull a bit I can see a hair or 2 fall out.

I thought by month 6 I’d see shedding stop atleast & maybe some thickening, but there’s no signs of my hair loss slowing down. I’m afraid that after waiting a year it’ll get worse.

Has anyone else experience this? Did it end up working out for u in the end? I really hope finasteride works for me.

Same boat here aswell. Losing loads of density every month or so. Not sure what to do next. Happy to get a hair transplant later in life just want to remain an acceptable candidate but dont seem to be able to maintain what i have

8 years till Im eligible to get a hair trandplant & I may not even be a candidate.

Im losing everything so fast and all these shedded hairs come out thinner near the root. 6 months & no signs of shedding or hair loss slowing down whatsoever. About to order minoxidil, although ik it’s just a 1-2 year lasting treatment.

THIS SOUNDS LIKE ME, EXCEPT I HAD SOME SIDES, I AM OKAY WITH SIDES IF IT WAS WORKING BUT IT HAS DESTROYED MY HAIR DENSITY, I BEEN ON THE DRUG MUCH LONGER THAN YOU, STARTED IN APRIL 2018, I TAPERED DOWN ON finasteride AROUND THE 1 YEAR ON finasteride AND SHEDDING STOP THEN I DECIDED TO START finasteride AGAIN, GIVE IT ANOTHER CHANCE, I INCREMENT DOSAGE OF finasteride AND NOW SHEDDING LIKE CRAZY HAS CAME BACK. I AM DEBATING ON TRYING DUTA DRUG AND/OR RU...BOTH MINIATURIZATION AND Telogen Effluvium BOTH I GOT FROM finasteride

WHILE ON finasteride, I KEPT ON NOTICING MY HAIR KEPT GETTING THINNER AND THINNER BUT I PLAYED IT OFF, WITH DIFFERENT HAIR CUTS TO HIDE THINNING AND THE ILLUSION WORKED FOR A SHORT WHILE BUT THEN MY HAIR GOT TOTALLY FUCKED AND YOU CAN SEE MY DAMN SCALP AND VORTEX TOTALLY FUCKED, PRIOR TO finasteride, I JUST HAD MINOR DIFFUSING! NOW I MIGHT HAVE TO GET A HAIR TRANSPLANT, I WOULD HAVE NEVER THOUGHT ABOUT SUCH A THING PRIOR TO finasteride!

I've been on it four months and seen nothing so far. No sides, no results, shedding seems as it was prior to taking the drug.

My first month was on generic Proscar, the second, third and fourth I've been using Merck Propecia.

I suspect it's not as effective as advertised. If you look carefully at the original study done in the 1990s with over 1500 participants, the group using nothing but Propecia started with over 500 men in it, by the end of the five years more than half had dropped out.

I'd love for someone, anyone at all, to explain to me why so many quit, because I suspect it was that the medication wasn't working or sides were intolerable.

I know finasteride is not snake oil, I know it helps many balding men, but I have a hard time buying that it helps 83% maintain. I think it's around 50/50. That would explain the number of dropouts in the study.

Consider yourself lucky you didnt lose lots of hair like i did on the drug. If finasteride doesnt work within the given time frame then try duta

I was on the drug for 6 weeks, the first 2 weeks of that I could literally feel that my hair density had decreased dramatically, it felt as though I had had a haircut, when I hadn't. My hair went really dry, wirey and uncontrollable. Then the shed began, in the shower I was probably losing between 20-50 hairs that I could see. I would find hair on my shoulders or around me throughout the day. Personally I think finasteride is bullshit, and like the post above, the studies need to be questioned. You see so many men playing down other people's bad experiences because it's not what they want to hear. I know full well that my hair wouldn't be falling out at the rate it is if I hadn't touched this drug.

I can tell you that I don't seem to be shedding as much now I'm no longer on Finasteride, I only seem to lose between 5-10 in the shower, but I do still lose hair when running my hand through it. The damage is done for me, and that's not even mentioning the constant burning feeling down my scalp since I went on finasteride.

I've been off of it since December 18.

I feel you. 17 months in on it and I’ve had a constant massive shed which I never had until taking finasteride..... yet I will continue to take bc it’s feels better than taking nothing. Just hope it not speeding up the balding process

Yeh I get that, for me I just had to come off of it because my mood completely deteriorated too, I was incredibly depressed which only started while I was on finasteride. 8 months off the drug my mental health is much better, despite the aggressive hair loss. My hair also isn't as dry anymore but like I said, for me the damage is done because I'm positive it has thinned every single hair on my head. Other sides included increased sebum, increased body hair and a burning/tingling and itching feeling. The itching has subsided massively, thankfully, but even as I write this I have a burning sensation towards the front of my scalp.

I wouldn't like to give you advice whether to continue or not, would you say you are atleast maintaining? From my experience, I would personally never recommend anyone to go onto Finasteride though.

Good luck with whatever you choose

I haven’t maintained I’ve definitely lost some ground. But im not sure whether it’s slowing it down or not. I didn’t starting shedding massive amounts until I started treatment I just hope I can hold on until this stem cell regeneration or duplication of donor hair treatments come out!

Yeh I hear you, I read somewhere that they're hoping for commercial availablity by 2020. I honestly don't know what my hair is going to be like in 1 years time. I noticed slight diffusion around October of last year and became insanely obsessed, hopped onto finasteride like it was no big deal, now I've not regretted and decision more in my life. I look back to pictures of just before I started 'treatment' and it just gets me down because I've lost so much. I have to wear toppiks now.

I feel you I good density but I’m at 2.5/ 3nw.
My guess is they’llu have stem cell in 2/3 years in foreign counties. Prob won’t have it int he states for 5 plus years at least.
I'm in the UK, so christ knows when we'll get that sort of treatment, if it even works. Sad thing i've just found a load of pictures of myself from 9 years ago, and I can see the same scalp pattern then as what I could back in October, so I don't actually know if I was in fact losing hair incredibly slowly, or even if at all. I certainly didn't have the tingling/burning or itching which is apparently associated with hairloss.

I believe i've given myself a medicated telogen effluvium which isn't recovering. f***.

Just a heads up. Its been 5 months on dutasteride and im experiencing the same thing. No signs of regrowth, but massive shedding everyday.
Heres the thing though: I've been losing so much hair everyday, i should have been bald by now. But im not. At the very least, my hair looks the same it did 5 months ago. Meaning, despite the massive amount of shedding, i must be regrowing hair too. Theres no way i can lose 5000 hairs on my hairline and not notice it.
The shedding has also decreased by 50% now, but i dont think its going to stop for the next couple years. Why? Because it takes years to lose your hair, so why should it take only 6 months to get it back?
Of course, there is a possibility im wrong.

I took Propecia 1mg for 1 week only.
I feel like a zombie since then, I think I have the "dizziness" secondary effect. I basically feel like I'm constantly really hungover. No issue with sex drive / erection type of thing, but jeez the zombie effect is real guys
If feel like you either get results and side effects, or you get no results and no side effects haha

I think it’s pretty stupid to call something snake oil when it works for so many. Even if it doesn’t work for me. Look at success stories & there’s millions who use propecia with success.

How much do you shed a day? What did you drop down too when starting duta.

I already shed 150-200 hairs a day I just hope to god duta doesn’t cause me to shed more lol
I dont understand what you mean by "drop down to".
I used to shed a sh*t ton of hair. Like everytime i would shower i would have a big clump full of hair. Probably 100 or more hairs just from a single shower, and i could do that multiple times a day. It sounds nuts, but i think i lost 400-500 hairs everyday.
It dropped significantly. This morning i showered my hair in the bathsink and i saw maybe 40-50 hairs. Thats still alot because i can do that everytime, but its alot less than what it used to be.
Heres a picture: I pulled on my entire hair for 5 minutes straight with alot of strength to get this much.

Yeah go to the success stories. There are 5 posts from 2019. Finasteride success rate is very low at stopping hair loss. It works for a lot of people who get a mature hairline at 18-20 years old, hop on propecia, and claim their hair stopped falling out when it would have stopped regardless. These guys come back at 10 years later, and claim finasteride "stopped" working, when in reality they are just starting to actually go bald and finasteride never worked to begin with. The biggest snake oil of our times.
