A lot of people on propecia experience erectile dysfuntion?

As a 22 year old with a hairline that's starting to recede I face a huge dilemma

*take propecia along with rogaine, risking impotence and infertility

*take rogaine only and do not fight dht, hope for the best, expect the worst?

:dunno:

Also major dent in skull would make me look like a freak bald

If aggressive hairloss doesn't run in the family (nw6 and nw7) and you have some money, than multiple hairtransplants, Rogaine and Nizoral might be enough. Side effects from finasteride are somewhat rare but I don't believe the 2% number for one minute.

Hair transplants...

I heard confusing things about this. I heard that when you continue to lose hair you will need more and more transplants and when you eventually run out of donor hair you are totally screwed?

How would this work? get work on the hairline and then later more work on the other parts?

What do hair transplants cost?

Will treatment be improved the next 10 years or are we not going to live to see male pattern baldness fixed?

Also... Is it true growth hormone injections help your hair and even regrow hair?

that would be great since it's also good for your skin, libido and body composition

That depends on how much hair you will lose. Hairloss often stabelizes but you should look at your family history, that can tell you alot. If you have alot of nw6 or nw7s in the family, you shouldn't have a hair transplant without finasteride. It's too risky. Not everyone runs out of donor hair, again it depends on the degree of your hairloss, how much hair you will need transplanted. Usually people need more than one hairtransplant. If you have a good surgeon, he will add density to your hair and he should keep the receiding hairline, not use too many grafts in the crown and when you continue to lose the hairs around your transplanted hairs, it will just look like you are just thinning. Some bad doctors design a new hairline that looks like a beautiful teenage hairline or use way too many grafts in the crown, and when the hairs start falling around, you will look like an idiot with "islands" of hairs all over. It all depends on you finding the right dr. And you should not have a hair transplant before 30. Many good hair transplant surgeons do amazing jobs.

Well if you never tried Propecia (finasteride) how do you know you would get sides? You could try it and see and if you do start experiencing sides then quit. The fact is, is that only a small percentage of users actually get side effects. In the end it is your call and your hair but I thought I would add my input.

I have been on finasteride for almost 4 years now ( I take generic Proscar from Teva and quarter it) which makes it affordable as well but I have never had one side effect yet. Also I did not read all of your posts but are you using Nizoral shampoo yet? If not you may want to use it as well, I use the 1% which is over the counter here in the US, the 2% here is a prescription. Honestly I tried both but to me the 1% is less harsh and gave me the same results.

Keep in mind that if you are looking for statistics, this is the wrong place to look for it. People on the extreme (in this case negative side effects) are much more likely to come onto a forum like this and discuss their experiences. I spoke to my dermatologist about finasteride and sides, and he said none of the 12 patients he has on finasteride right now have experienced any major side effects.

There was a study posted here that there are no permanent side effects (sample size: 30,000)... so if you do have unwanted sides, get off of finasteride...

Ok I'm pretty convinced actually to try it now. My dermatologist checked me out tuesday nearly two weeks ago and said yeah you're showing some male pattern baldness signs and hairline is receding somewhat. and gave me minoxidil.

Should I go back to him and say "I read minoxidil is good for regrowth, but does not address the central issue of dht attacking the hair follicles. Shouldn't I be adding finasteride to my minoxidil?"

He said "there's only two things that work" and gave me minoxidil. "there's also medication but" and acted like that was really heavy stuff.

Possible a dermatologist doesn't understand dht etc? I mean (wtf)

I had some minor side effects that most people don't seem to experience the past 3 months since starting. I was getting a bit worried, then everything has cleared up and I am 100% feeling normal.

No scalp itch and looks like I'm in the beginning stages of regrowth.

People who are (ab)using hGH have been reporting thicker hair, and recovery of natural hair color in cases where they have grey hair. I've noticed that my hair grows faster while on it. hGH do many great things, but it can be very dangerous, so make sure to do your homework if you're going to experiment.

The downside is that I heard using HGH costs about 1500-2000 dollars a month. Well I read this on a bodybuilding forum, not sure how accurate it is.

In my country, the official black market price is 6 - 7 $ per i.u. I'm only using 1 i.u. a day. Only body builders use more than 3 i.u.'s a day.

so $180-210 per month?

How is it working out?

The price is different around the world, but that's what I pay. It would probably be cheaper in US if you live there, as it's much closer to the source. It takes months to see the result. The immediate reaction was improved over all well-being.

i don't wanna start another thread so I'll ask here and hope to get replies.

I'm 2 weeks on minoxidil now. Haven't noticed any shedding. Maybe there is some shedding but didn't really notice. Does that mean it's not working or does it take longer.

I still need to see my dermatologist about considering adding finasteride, since all the info says that fighting male pattern baldness with minodixil alone is madness. Scared of impotence but apparently you can be lucky as well and have no sides...

Also I read that it affects your sperm negatively so you'd have to wear a condom all the time for sex to avoid the inferior sperm to knock up your girlfriend.

also, i read that both minoxidil and finasteride cause shedding the first few months. would it then make sense to take one 3 months and get over the shedding before adding the 2nd product? to avoid a twofold shedding reaction so to speak. then after the initial 3 months start and continue using both.

Not true, although finasteride does affect sperm negatively in some cases, causing defects and immobilizing sperm, and it's wise to wear a condom for obvious reasons.

whats with this "somewhat rare" bullshit

id say 90% of people on sustained use of finasteride/propecia will experience atleast some sides.

just about everyone on here has experienced something, some of course more bearable than others

I took about 14 months before i actually realised it had gradually eroded my libido

some people take it for multiple years before realising they've fucked up their hormones.
