Accutane Induced Hair Loss, or a Balding Maturing Hairline?

Hello! I'm 22, I was on accutane twice. 17-18 and 21-22. Since my first accutane treatment my hairline has changed.
I'm not sure if it's male pattern baldness or what, because my father's bald, but my grandfathers aren't. I haven't got any problem on my vertex, just the temples.
Accutane can cause temporary hairloss, and my derm said that I should wait 3 months after the treatment, and my hair will be fine. (I just stopped taking accutane). So please, help me decide what the heck's goin on! :)

And what should I use? Because whether its male pattern baldness or not, I would like to grow my back my hair on my temples...

My hair now:

Yes, it is male pattern baldness. I would suggest you get on finasteride (proscar, propecia) and minoxidil (if you want to go full out war with hairloss).

It is not accutane and the longer you deny whats going on the more hair you will lose. With todays meds it is possible to keep what you have for years and years and maybe even regrow a little.

thanks! i don't want to use propecia, and it's not so easy to get it in my country. i'm considering rogain+ nizoral, could it be enough? should i use rogain on the whole scalp or just the front areas?

I would strongly suggest looking into finasteride, Rogaine works only as long as you keep up with and Nizoral is more of a complement to a hairloss treatment. Good luck and do not let the fear mongers scare you into not taking finasteride. Do you own research, consult with your doctor and dermatologist. If you decide to take it just look for side effects and quit taking it if they are too much.

I hope I can achieve improvements with zinc, saw palmetto, nizoral and rogaine, and without finasteride. I don't really want to try finasteride just now... I understand that I could quit taking it, if any problem appeared, but I'm thinking of my future. When I will be 60. Side effects can appear that time also. There are men in this forum with male pattern baldness like mine, and simple rogain use could help them regrow hair. I try to see my future positively... I'll start this regimen soon! :) If it works, I can add spironolactone...

Oh dear, obviously you don't value your hair that much, you're talking in hypothetical way, as if that's it, you're going to have side effects. Hopefully you're not back here in a year bemoaning the fact you've lost ground.

Good luck anyway.

is spironolactone worth using if you already take Finasteride?

to the OP, I would also advise finasteride, after consulting with a doctor

okay guys, finally decided to hop on finasteride... in my country there are 5mg amount of finasterids. proscar is one of them. is it okay if i cut it into 4 pieces??? so i'll take 1.25 of it? i bought zinc, nizoral and rogain foam also. :)

oh and should I use retino-a on my temples? because that's the area where i have no hair. :( but i read that it's hard to regrow there.

Rogaine foam, Proscar 1/4 in the morning. nizoral hair wash every day or every other day in the evening, because I have seborrhea, after my hair dries, Rogaine foam again and then Zinc (citrate chelate) 25 mg.

Is it a good regimen? Thanks.

Hi!

1 month update.

During the first month I was sehedding. About 3-4 days ago I noticed that this stopped, and I went for a haircut. Now it looks a bit worse
in the front. There I have less hair, caused by the shedding. I'm using Spectral UHP liquid at night and Rogaine foam in the morning.
1 month is really short time, so I keep up with my regimen and wait for the results! Btw when can I expect any positiv changes? Is it a good sign that the shedding stopped?

Hey mate, are you 100% sure that your hairloss was caused by accutane ?? Because i m in the same situation as you know and i m worried about how quick is my hairloss. My hair seems to shed really fast and i m also afraid of finasteride because of the side effects, i ve had enough with accutane... Also is your scalp itchy? Because mine is and to me it means i m still losing hair...I d like to keep my hair until i m 30 at least...

Hey! Im not 100% sure, because in my family there is/was balding men. But I have two friends, who took accutane, and their hairline is destroyed. My other friend took this for a long time, and has a good hair, so I dont know. I read that accutane can accelerate hairloss, but Im not sure. My dermatologist said that temporary hairloss can be caused by it. Last time when I told her that Im shedding, she said its because I stopped using it, but it will stop within 3 months... Also said that its maybe genetics... Anyway, the hair wont grow back on temples, thats for sure... My scalp is not itchy, but you should use Nizoral shampoo if yours is.

In my opinion, you should start treatments whether its mbp or not if you want to save your hair. In this forum almost everybody's first advice is to try finasteride, you can read it in this topic. I was sceptical first, but I gave it a try, and no side effects appeared. It's the best solution now to keep what you have. You can also start a minoxidil treatment, there are men on this forum who could keep their hair only using this. I recommend you to consult with your dermatologist. You should check this site: hairlossfromsteroids.com. This guy has videos on youtube too, you should check them for example the one about his opinion about finasterid.
