Age 35. Red Scalp. Am I Losing My Hair?

I never thought about this as my hair is quite thiCk and looks so from the front. Four weeks ago my wife said my scalp was red. I had dandruff too and started on Nizoral at the same time.

I took some photos of my scalp a few days later and noticed what the crown looks like. I remember my mother saying i had a big crown/whorl years ago but didn't think about it. I can't tell exactly because the shape of the whorl is jagged, but am I losing my hair?

There is never any hair on my pillow and only between 5 and 12 in the shower most days.

Should I get on the Finasteride? How effective would it be?

Maybe some form of dermatitis?

Hard to assess when you have long hair like you do, its probably something to get a dermatologist or doctor to look at.

From the look of your hair density the chances of you having any significant hair loss from this age onwards is unlikely. Finasteride is not a drug to be taken lightly.

I definitely see your scalp is irritated but I can't tell if you're losing hair. Can you take some more pics in better light?

Here are some in better light. Comments would be much appreciated. I think there is some loss. My wife seems to think it is looking better than a month ago. Perhaps that's the nizoral/cold showers and garlic/egg masks but I don't know.

You may be right but I'd like to hear from someone else as you are spamming all the threads here with a link to your own site. Thanks.

Its funny when people say minoxidil and finasteride can only slow hair loss not stop it. What hat they pull that info from I have no idea. Almost everything completely varies by person. If you have mild male pattern baldness that alone might stop it for 3 years or 30 years. You dont know unless you try

Ok, but do I have male pattern baldness here, from what you can see?

Gonna admit, I'm kinda stumped. The area that I circled in green is your cowlick that doesn't appear to be thinning. However, the hair coming off at the front of the cowlick is what gives me pause. I circled this in red.

It's possible that the red area is your hair parting, but I can't tell for sure. Sorry for the lack of answers.

The area in the red, the hair does show signs of miniaturisation.

Ok guys. That's really helpful if you. The red area was/is my concern too. I got my haircut today. The stylist said I am not balding but my scalp is red.

My pictures suggest otherwise to my eyes.

What advice would you have in terms of slowing or even reversing this? Would minoxidil be enough? I can get that from the chemist. Or should I go to the Doctor and see about propecia?

You've been really helpful. If I could just get a bit more from you I'd be very grateful.

Get on the big three. Propecia, Rogaine and Nizoral shampoo. @Armando Jose is right though, you should get the scalp irritation under control first. Also your final two pics are interesting in that they look normal. I'd see a dermatologist to make absolutely sure you're thinning. Wouldn't want to put you on a medication you don't need.

You're a fair bit older than a lot of the 20-somethings that come here. If it is hairloss, it's most likely nonaggressive because it kicked in relatively late.

The final pics are from a couple of hours later under normal light. I took a photo of my scalp close up and it's sure inflamed. I'll see a doctor about that this week and ask about propecia too.
