It seems that winning elections is nothing more than a popularity contest.
But isn't that how it's always been here in America? For the most part anyways?
Bryan said:Absolutely. A far better example of that, obviously, would be Ronald Reagan. When Reagan was elected, I said to myself, "I mean come on now??!!" But there's a big difference between Reagan and Franken, one that makes a direct comparison difficult: Al Franken is a very smart guy. I think he'll do Minnesota proud.

Hey, I feel like I've been living behind enemy lines for more than 40 years!
But considering how much Bill O'Reilly hates and despises Al Franken, isn't it obvious that the voters of Minnesota made the right choice? Back a few years ago, O'Reilly (well, actually it was his cohorts at Fox News) sued Franken over some perceived slight, and Franken told the hilarious story later on a talk show about how the case was LITERALLY "laughed out of court". I think O'Reilly was so incensed over that dismal failure, he's been on Franken's case ever since. I hope Al Franken lives long and prospers as Senator from Minnesota.

It was quite a while ago and I'm a little hazy on all the details, but Al Franken had written a book satirizing some members of the Republican party, including (if I recall correctly) Bill O'Reilly. But the Fox network didn't like that one little bit, so they sued Franken for "libel" or "defamation", or somesuch. But the laws of the US specifically allow the publishing of such satirical material, so the case was quickly and resoundingly dismissed in court.
