I can not tolerate alcohol on my scalp it causes me some redness and flaking, not to mention it makes my hair look like $hit! Even the alcohol in Tricomin spray caused me some problems and I've had to stop using it. I want to start Minoxidil and could really use some advice! Must alcohol be combined with minoxidil for it to be effective? I'm reading here that the foam is most appealing because it doesn't cause irritation but I prefer to keep my hair kinda long and for this reason perhaps a liquid minoxidil would be better? If you know of a formula that contains little to no alcohol and other irritants please fill me in!! Btw i'm looking for regrowth in the front and temples mostly and have been using propecia 1mg daily for nearly a year.

Ditto.....i have a very sensitive scalp with alcohol and what not....the foam is amazing. I don't even notice I have applied it.....no flakes, no redness.....I have fairly long hair....just part it and rub the foam in, it'll absorb. I find that if i use the end of the cap to apply the foam then it becomes much easier. The foam doesn't melt on contact because it is on the cap, giving me plenty of time to apply. Then just simply put the cap to the parted thinning areas and rub in.

I also heard that adding borageseed oil to your minoxidil will take away irritation.

Still I wonder, does Minoxidil work without alcohol or is it a necessary evil ?
