All mirrors were not created equal.

It's the lighting intensity and angle that can be the worst. Standing close to an artificial light is the worst. Daylight is often more forgiving. Depending on the lighting source, angle and proximity, you can look great or look like ****.

Lighting makes all the difference. My BDD-friendly, low brightness lights in my house always make my hair look better. Then I get to work, in the full beam fluorescent lights, there's nowhere to hide.

Bathroom mirror lighting is amazing. It makes you look so much better than you really are. And the light reflects in just the right way in the mirror so that it mitigates my diffuse hairloss. I used to think I was average or above average. But when I started looking at my images other than the bathroom mirror, I realized I'm in the bottom 5th perctile in terms of looks. And my diffuse hairloss is extremely noticeable outside the bathroom.

It also matters on the direction of light. If it's pointing straight down on your head it will make your hair loss look even worse. Even if you don't have hairloss, it will make you feel like you do. Try standing in front of a mirror and twisting your head so that the sides of your head at in the light directly, it'll feel like you're losing hair there too, but you're probably not.

Dont you hate it when your reflection grabs you and pulls you into the "mirrored" world...wait what?

Sometimes I'll walk up to the mirror, cover my temples with my hands and mentally fill in the gap, imagining that I am a NW1, and then I walk away from the mirror with that image of myself in my mind. Thinking I am still, "that guy".

Makes me feel better, until I accidentally pass by another mirror.

I hate incandescent light more then anything. it makes my hair look semi see-through at the hairline.

However fluorescent, and normal broad day lighting shinning in my bathroom ... hair looks great.

Especially for us guys who have fairer skin complexion, and scalp/hair pigmentation. it can make our hair looks worse off then it actually is.

Even if the lights are harsh the reality is we all diffuse eventually. Most don't realize it, but they are already in formation of their final pattern even whilst being NW2. Iv'e noticed this when I take a shower, even if my hair looks full I can slowly see that ever so promising NW5 in formation.

I love how my hair looks in my rear view mirror! Daylight is usually good too. Not a fan of my bathroom mirror. As others have said, harsh unnatural light shining from directly above your head is the worst, it makes full heads look like they're diffuse thinning and makes thinning heads look like crap.

Daylight through my bathroom window always makes me look my best.. The same bathroom at night with the light on yields different result :/

Contrast between your scalp skin and hair follicles is more important than people think. You want to opt for the least possible contrast between your scalp and your hair follicles. It can make quite a difference. I benefit from this as I need to tan only one time and I get a good tan. And my hair is brown of color too. I always comb my hair backwards when I go to the tanning salon, to tan the skin on my scalp as much as possible lol  (at the hairline).

If you have black hair and whitish skin for instance, well that isn't going to work in your favor.

Get on the carotenoids, no need for tanning salons anymore!

Yeah I was using beta carotene and/or mixed carotenoids before but recently switched to just astaxanthin and my skin is looking even healthier, with that nice tan colour and skin glow. Can use anywhere between 6mg-12mg daily and should see visible results within a few weeks.

If only hairloss was so easy.

Interesting, seems pretty powerful stuff for a supplement. Definitely going to try it out, thanks.

There's no easy fix to hair loss, that's perhaps the most difficult aspect of the problem. Every time when I look at a reflection of myself, I just don't feel like my full self anymore, all because of hair loss.
