I'm currently taking Prozac to help with ocd. It basically killed my dick but I'm also losing hair so I was gonna start finasteride. Basically I'm afraid that Prozac is gonna mask any sexual side effects I would notice on finasteride and I don't want to cause any permanent damage. My psychiatrist plans on weaning me of Prozac to try a different ssri but I was just wondering If starting finasteride rn would be a bad idea. I'd like to start sooner than later so I don't lose any hair.

Switch to mirtazapine or Bupropion for depression, both are safe for your dick, i had way more problems with ssris etc killing my libido than finasteride ever did.

How could anybody or you possibly know if you already have a dead dick if taking finasteride will kill it even more, or maybe cause permanent damage? Even if it would affect your dick in some way, how could you possibly make the difference or know which one of the drugs you are taking is causing it.... The only way to find out is to get off the anti depressants, leave your body to recover and after try finasteride. If it starts messing with your dick than at least you know that both of them can cause that symptom... I don't see any other way and i'm sure that nobody on this forums knows better also

Or yeah, you could take this "internet doctors" advice but after don't wonder or be amazed if thing don't work as he imagines in his delusional sick mind. But if things are going in a way for him than it means that it must be the same for everyone, he is a well known "doctor" of this forum, he must know what he is talking about, like the majority of these forums users, *coughs ironically

Where did i call myself a doctor? i just know that both the drugs i mentioned don't effect your libido as much compared to other anti-depressants , calm down. I was just trying to give him some other options he can talk to his doctor about to tackle his depression without it hurting his libido, geez

Saying and i quote "Switch to mirtazapine or Bupropion for depression, both are safe for your dick"? Wtf is this? Can't you guys share your shitty and useless anecdotal reports without making it sound like it's legit for everybody and that this is the way it should work for others also?

You all do the same things with finasteride sides, if anybody comes and says something, most of you jump and say "f*** off with your anecdotal reports, it's impossible" and after combat those anecdotal reports with your own personal anecdotal reports like "i'm taking it for 6 months and i'm fine"...

Wtf are you all braindead or what? Not even considering that you write these things and after deny them even if your post histories are the reflections of what i'm saying?

I have never claimed finasteride is completely safe for your dick, i myself had a drop of libido on it as well as lower semen volume, pretty much the same with dutasteride, neither side was severe enough to stop me from taking the drugs personally though. As for my recommendations for anti-depressants i was just talking from personal experience, i have never claimed to be a doctor i was just trying to give him so advice on ways to deal with depression without it hurting his libido, mirtazapine is a great anti-depressant that is well known not give the same sexual sides other anti-depressants do, i simply mention that and i get hounded and attacked for it.

Dude i was talking in general, read my messages again and stop taking out of context what fits your narratives... And nobody attacked you or hounded you, i just don't like the way most of you share your opinions. "Do it, switch it, i am fine, i accept it, for me, etc"... That's all, in the end we all want our problems solved, no need to feel personally attacked or attached to drugs or others stuff.

Ok fair enough then, i wish the OP the best anyway, i would still say to talk to his doctor about mirtazapine for depression if he is getting unbearable sexual sides from Fluoxetine.

Yeah i think also that the doctor should know about his sexual problems and maybe changing the medicine with something that won't damage other part of his body while trying to fix others...

I know dude, nobody wants to lose nothing but i would strongly advise in doing your research before and strongly suggest also in taking some doctors advise while doing it. I really think they know best, especially the doctor who prescribed you the ssri's. And get their advise with a grain of salt also and keep in mind that doctors are humans also and the medical system of these days is strongly bombarded by pharmaceutical companies and many other institutes that have their interests. Please do your research before taking any action, it could save you a lot of future unnecessary struggle.

And my personal opinion is that nobody can know unless they try it unfortunately but this comes with a risk that not all of us are willing to take, it all depends on the individual. And as i said, as long as you are on 2 different drugs that can cause sexual sides, it's impossible to actually know which one of them is causing it. Let's say the doctors gives you a new one, you take it and after a few months your body is fine and the sexual sides from the last drug are gone, only then i think it's "safe" to try finasteride and see if it gives you sides also, i really think it's the only way in doing it, but this is only my opinion of course, a really good and informed doctor could give you a much better advise maybe...

You are not gonna have it with hair and without a dick also so i don't know what to say...

Can I not just take v**** to counter the sides?

Combating sides from a drug with other drugs does it seem a good idea to you? To me it does not and even v**** or other potency medicine, taking it at 20 for f*** sake, they were made for 60 year olds who can't get it up because of age related "sides"... But you know better, that's why i said you really need to inform yourself before making a decision, your playing with your health, youth and life, i would take it more seriously before taking action, but this is just me...

Yeah i wouldn't rely on v****, it's not a good long term solution imo. If you get sexual sides on finasteride they will probably be minor and if they are really bad then for most people you can just stop the drug and they will subside in time, some people get lingering sides for a long time but that is not the norm. Again i would say talk to your Doctor about mirtazapine or wellbutrin if you are concerned about libido sides from anti-depressants.

Thanks I'm starting a new ssri soon so im hoping it wont have the same side effects but if it does ill mention them to my psychiatrist. As for finasteride I'll probably start it soon I just wanted to know if theres any chance I could do long term damage to myself with out realising it but from what I've read what you said makes the most since. That even if i get sides they should stop after taking the pill and I'll be ok. Thanks for your response this was the answer I was looking for.

I wish you all the best and hope you get great results with finasteride with zero or minimal sides, i hope your new anti-depressant works out as well, hope you feel better soon.
