hi there,

i went to a see a hair specialist in sept/2003 and obviously he suggested a hair transplant, seeing as it was gonna cost nearly $9000 i said the hell with it i'm 21 years old and still have hair covering my whole head and am thinning in the top middle to back and front left and right. so i decided to go the non surgical route. seeing as i've heard the earlier the better as far as medications go.

i have been using 2% minoxidil and 1.25 mg proscar for approx. 5 months ( which is what the Doctor prescribed ) and my hair loss / thinning has slowed noticeably. i have decided to switch to 5% minoxidil as of march/2004 and add nizoral ( 2%) at the same time to maximize the results......

now the questions:
1) is it o.k. to switch from 2% to 5% minoxidil from one day to the next?
2) is safe to take saw palmetto as well as finesteride at the same time?
3) is there anything that i could add to this regimen to better my chances of success?

thanks guys in advance for your help !

Yeah, you're on the right track except for going to a "HAIR SPECIALIST"

1.)It's more than O.K, it's reccomended

2.)Probably can get away with taking S.P with finasteride, however don;t waste your money and risk side-effects for an un-provren product, especially since you're on finasteride anyway

3)Drink lot's of water, take propecia at night, scalp massage/exercises, eat healthy by reducing sugar and carbs, leave nizoral in for at least 10 minutes before showering, be relious with minoxidil, don;t ever think about hairloss and stay positive.

If all else fails, amke sure you HEAVILY research hair trasplant doctors and the techniques they use. Don't be afraid to travel and spend extra money. Again this is absolute last resort.

You're welcome man. Acutally I have no science to back up my advice. Hoewever a long time ago this guy reccomended taking propecia at night(he said something beneficial about it, I just don;t remember) and was having success with his regimen. I have did the same, after about one year of usage, when my hair was goig to sh*t on propecia. It's been over a year since and it's been nothing but good times. Though some people claim that over night it DHT builds up and then is released when one wakes up, so this could be the science. I don't know if I believe this.

Anyway, good luck and you are surely not alone.
