An interesting video on finasteride, now I think I know why I did so poorly on it.

My doctor had me at a dose that was way way way too high.

I wonder how many other doctors have prescribed too heavy a dose to their patients for hair loss.

How did you figure it out? Did a lower dose work nicely for you? I'm inclined to believe what Dr Knudsen thinks: That for most men 1 mg per day and thus 7 mg a week is overkill and that's why some experience side effects. I've been a week on 1 mg thrice a week thus far and if anything I'd say I feel healthier, more collected and calmer.

No, I followed my Doctor's advice and as I've said in other threads, the sides just snuck up on me one day.

I was fine and then I woke up one day, I was pale, I felt like absolute sh*t my skin looked terrible, my donger didn't work and felt lifeless.

At that point I knew something was seriously wrong and there was no way I could titrate down, it was too late, I had to get off it and I knew it.

I may however try again at some point.

A lower dose could help short term but in the long term I'm sure you will still get sides.

A low dose of finasteride will block almost as much DHT as a high dose of fina.

The point is that this stuff builds up in your system if you watched the video, it stays in the skin longer, thus the requirement to keep ingesting it is not as high. If nothing else it is quite interesting that it works that way.

Yeah the point of taking 1 mg thrice a week according to them is that DHT and 5-A-Reductase takes longer to recover in your scalp and skin than in your blood. So by taking it 3 times a week you're impacting your systemic DHT the least amount possible according to them. I may end up upping the dosage to 5 mg a week in 3 or 4 months though, if everything's coming along nicely.

Sadly micro dosing was tried many times already, results are always the same. Yes side effects are less but will hardly help for hairloss.
Yeah a smaller dose might not help for people who are at higher risk or extremely sensitive to these meds, sadly. I hope we find safer and more efficient topical blockers for Androgen Receptors eventually for these people.

Either way, it is interesting information, and it is my hope that it may help somebody out there, and it also helps validate the notion that yes, in fact finasteride CAN cause side effects and simultaneously this proves that there may be a way for more people to fanagle a solution around conventional doses.

It’s not a lower dose it’s a less frequent dose. Duhhhh try to listen and read

Same sh*t different pile, it's all about how much accumulates in the blood.

Taking 3x doses of a medication per day when you should be administered 1x per day is still "too high a dose" in relation to blood concentration.

Don't be pointlessly rude.

did you know both of them tried oral finasteride and both quit?

Maybe, but regardless, their attenuated dosing schedule makes a lot of sense.

Not only that but both men look like they have a decent amount of hair, so unless they got a hair transplant, they are at least androgen insensitive enough that nuking what little they had was too much.

Im not against the dosage. No they both didn’t have transplant. Honestly one of their hairline doesn’t look so great and the other his density doesn’t seem great to me rather thin. They can give some good advice at times.

They didn’t say they quit bc of sides. They said they didn’t get sides. They said they quit bc they didn’t have male pattern baldness
I never implied they had sides but makes me question their judgment why take it in the first place if you didnt have male pattern baldness.

I saw their video when they told that they both took it for a while and if I remember they did it because they both have a history of hair loss in their family, so they both took it for a while as a preventative measure so to speak, until they realised they didn't really need it.

They also claim they had people in their family who didn’t suffer from male pattern baldness. They also make claims to not focus on growth or not always expect that but maintaining when on finasteride which they were maintaining on it. It just a bit contradictory.

Yeah I'd just give the two guys the benefit of the doubt for the time being. I know most people here say australian surgeons are mostly mediocre but these guys have spent a lot of time making great videos and they don't seem like gold diggers to me.

I can relate to them on the family aspect since the men in my paternal family are literally all NW1's till death, except for my great grandfather on my grandpa's side. Baldness comes from my maternal grandfather and my maternal grandma in my case.

I have nothing against them but just thinking objectively. Doctors, youtubers, people on forums can be wrong but also can give sound advice.
