So im 21 almost 22, started noticing hair loss about a year ago in the crown. I started propecia 3 months ago and for the last 2 months ive done nothing but shed....somthing fierce. Im about to cut my hair very short and start using rogaine...with really short hair, stubble even, i figure ill be able to get a good even application. Im not posting this to cry for answers why im shedding. But any advice by someone who knows what they are talkin about would be cool. What im wondering is ...is this bad of a shed normal, or is propecia maybe the wrong way for me to go? Well any good advice or inspiring words would be helpful, thanks yall.

It's worrying when one has a shed, this is true, because we can never be sure that it's gonna grow back thicker & stronger as it's supposed to. However, in most cases, it does when it's been induced by propecia or minoxidil. Chances are the hair you shed was thinning & it will grow back healthier & thicker.

If you wanna speed up that process, adding minoxidil isn't such a bad idea, personally, i'd wait until the 6 months is up and review your situation then.

After my first shed (minoxidil induced) my hair grew back and improved greatly for 3 months straight. I'm now having another moderate shed, and my hairline is looking a little thinner than it was a few weeks ago BUT it still looks MUCH better than it did before i stsrted the minoxidil. And i fully expect, that by xmas, my hair will look better than it has for a long time! :)

Hang in there.

I really don´t know for sure, and you know your own hair and treatment better than I of course, but couldn´t "Finasteride (20/02/03-25/09/03)" have anything to do with this shed?

same situation..

Been on Propecia. for almost a month, I've shedded some, but the samll stress now will pay off later, frustrating ain't it. I don't ecpect results immediately, but by about month 4 or 5 I'll seriously consider more.

It could but i've read no evidence to show quitting fina causes a shed. Note my words carefully. Quitting fina should cause ones natural progression of balding to continue at its normal pace. Quitting minoxidil does cause a shed, due to the "minoxidil dependency" effect.

It's most likely a periodic minoxidil shed, i've pretty much due for one at this stage, having had one in the 2-5 week period of starting minoxidil.

dht levels returning to normal should not in thoery cause a shed. Time will tell.
