Everyone on here must have heard about Linkin Park. Tremendous band. Globally known.
So famous that their songs are known by memory by millions of people all over the world.
They are widely considered one of the most notable bands of the 00s. It's no hyperbole to say that they shaped my generation (the ones born in the mid to late nineties, between the Millennials and Generation Z).

Chester Bennington, the lead singer of the band, took his own life sometime between yesterday night and this morning.
Found dead in a private house in LA. He had it all: once again depression won against a famous and cherished personality. He had it all, and got it all, but he chose to quit the game.

Many speculated about the seemingly high number of suicides in the entertainment industry, mainly music.
One of the many, many explanations is the fear of aging. Many singers, which are by definition very sensitive and sensible people, can't bear the early signs of old age, even when fame is still rampaging and millions of fans cherish them and listen to them every day.
Balding, as we all know, is the sign of old age in men.

Here is Chester Bennington in the early 00s

Then, he tried a very nineties spiked hairstyle to hide his thinning:

Then, this year: a hat prisoner. With a very shitty hat indeed.

The fear of old age can't be ruled out. The singer is young forever; he can't age.
A singer must be like his voice: eternal. We probably truly will never know why.
But the disease definitely played a part in this.

I shall never ever again make suicide threads.
I'm starting to believe collective consiousness is real.
A shame, really when I was a kid I liked his music.
A former playboy girl was his wife, they got a divorce, everything must have added up.

This story reminds me of Albert Hammond Jr. of the Strokes, who used to rock a curly mop of hair. When he could no longer hide his balding with a grown-out ’fro type of affair, he shaved off his hair, and it was around this time that he appeared on an episode of a tv-show. When they uploaded a clip of the episode to Youtube, the entire comment section was filled with comments like “OMG is he sick???”. I looked up the video but comments have since been disabled. As I searched for an image of the episode, this gem popped up:

I just knew this morning when I read the news that "someone on HairLossTalk.com is going to chalk this up to baldness"

Get a grip, OP; the guy had tons of other issues and was married to a former playmate and has 6 kids between two wives and no shortage of groupies.

I know it sounds shocking, but guys like him probably don't give a damn about hairloss and it's not like he couldn't afford a top of the line transplant or system if he wanted to get it done.

Noticed his thinning hair long long ago and as the years pass by I would look for him in the news every once in a while and found him surprisingly not even close to bald yet. Always thought he was on finasteride.

This is so sad. He used to be my hero. I remember when my baldness started in my teens I would hide in my room and replay his whole albums over and over again. The pain and anger and abysmal despair. As medications started to work and my hair miraculously grew back it almost felt as if his songs gave me something to lean on to heal. Until they suddenly started to produce sh*t music.

I even suspected more than once that he wrote Crawling to describe the f*****g male pattern baldness itch. Look it up.

Well he's a goner so is my hair.

Damn.

It has been a favorite group of mine.

It's interesting how certain songs help us cope through difficult times. Create a release valve for emotions which would consume us otherwise.
