What is a good response to this insensitive question?

I may ask wtf they are talking about or I may not dignify it with a response. Any adult should know exactly what happened to my hair without needing to ask.

This related to what dudemon was talking about in the other thread. They know exactly what happened. These people just want to make us say we have a defect (baldness). Oftern happens when there are other people around.

I am looking for a clever retort which isnt directly insulting. If we go for the insult retort, we would be the bad guy.

The only retort which comes to mind is "I became a man".

just say, "i'm going bald! oh well" best reponse! lol

But see, that is you saying something negative about yourself which is what the asker wants.

Can we say something positive (in a joking fashion)

I've always kind of liked its a solar panel for a sex machine. I think you guys are to worried about what others think. If someone comments on this its obviously an insult. So you should insult them back. If its a woman point out something about her breasts or weight. If its a guy you'll have to use his weight or something else that is not perfect about him. You could also comment on their less than average intelligence. People who do this sort of thing have to put others down to feel good about themselves. So the best thing to do is put them down right back. Eventually they'll learn to shut up. And if they don't a good pop to the mouth will shut them up.

Usually people are not mean about it, they are truly ignorant. That's all

Even if you told them you are going bald, some people might not believe you because they think male pattern baldness only occurs on old males.

They probably think you have a disease or a bad diet.

And it's not like we don't have people with that mentality right here

Yeah, some people really are that ignorant. I can recall one of my old supervisors at work that used to make fun of my NW4-5 every single day at work.

All day long, I was sure to get comments like:

"Hey buddy, what'd you do this time? Spray paint your head with chrome? .... hahahaha!"

OR,

"If I were you, I'd invest my life savings in hair tonic or something, 'cuase you need it! Damn boy, I ain't never seen a such a bald-a$$ mofo like you! How old are you? 70 something? .... hahahahaha"

OR,

"Hey everybody, I think its time to start keeping all the windows closed ...there's too much glare in here! ... OH now I know why, waldo-the-baldo here (referring to me) must have waxed his head again last night! I'm gonna have to put some shoe polish on your head boy 'cause that ugly a$$ bald head of yours is blinding me! Damn! I'm gonna have to start coming to work with sunglasses on!"

OR,
"Damn boy you need to keep that thing covered up! Why don't you just wear a hat or something? I wouldn't be caught dead with my head looking that ugly and bald!"

The bottom line is that the a$$hole was really TRYING to give me a complex about my bald head. His comments were deliberate and aimed at trying to piss me off to the point where I would get into a physical altercation with him ... so he could have an excuse to fire me.

The thing about it was that his comments were always derogatory and were not said in a 'jokingly' manner. The fact was that he had a grudge against me at work (because his hours got cut when I got hired) and he used my hairloss as a way to insult and intimidate me EVERY SINGLE DAY for the 2 years that I worked for that company.

And like you were referring to above, he really did think that it was because I had a bad diet; anyways, he accused me of being a tweaker which was supposedly the reason why he claimed my diet was poor. The thing that really sucked was that after a while, he had the whole company convinced that my male pattern baldness was really the result of years of hard drug use. (This was 100% false, BTW!)

It didn't take long, and soon his derogatory comments turned into stuff like:

"Damn boy, you better lay off that dope, 'cause pretty soon you'll have no more hair left! ... ahahahahaha!" Everyone there at work took him serious.

I swear, what a bunch of ignorant red-neck f*cktards! It really sucks that NONE of them had ANY signs of male pattern baldness whatsoever. Every single guy that worked there was 35+ and all had NW1's or no more than NW1.5. I was the ONLY guy there with any signs of male pattern baldness.

In the end, I got terminated from that job becuase he had HIS boss (the owner of the business) 100% convinced that I had a 'drug problem' and he pointed to my hair loss as 'evidence' of it. The owner bought it hook, line, and sinker ... and without even giving me a drug test (he said there was no need for it) I was terminated.

My supervisor got what he wanted: rid of me. He used my male pattern baldness as the vehicle to do it.

I'm surprised. You should have sued them.
For harassment and wrongful termination.

This was about 15 years ago, and yes, I wanted to kick his *** so bad at that time. But I was desparate and had no money, and barely enough savings, and it was the first time I had ever lived alone and had to support myself. Because I had very little experience in that career back then, I had a Hell of a time even getting THAT job, and I had been fired 3 times in the previous 6 months. I was just in a bad situation and I knew I couldn't get another job right away. So I just sucked it up and took that $HIT from him everyday.

Besides, back then, I had allowed my physical condition to deteriorate significantly to the point where I would have gotten my *** kicked. He was a Vietnam vet and a hardcore "ex-military/gun freak" type and I would have gotten the $HIT kicked out of me hands down.

That's exactly what he was hoping ... so he could humiliate me ... and have an excuse to fire at the same time.

Sadly he is not alone in his attitude. What a pointness, nasty, horrible species we really are...Made in Gods image, what does that say about God.

"Does my hairloss bother you?" (to the person bringing it up). "Since you brought it up, perhaps you might care to discuss why you are bothered by my hairloss?!?!?! Why does it concern you?"

I really liked Dudemon's post from another thread. That should be a great answer to the qusetion.

Wait, you implied that since you have a smaller amount of hair, your size is also smaller?

The fact is, most people are not only ignorant about baldness, but they also don't understand that it is really something that hits someones self esteem hard. When I was 16 or so, I was also completley ignorant about male pattern baldness. My uncle, who I hadnt seen in a year or so, went bald. Now, he had a heavily diffused head of hair before, but I still thought of him as being a guy with a full head of hair. So when I saw him, only a year later, a NW4, it was a pretty heavy shock. Almost like, hair one day, gone the next. The thought "What the hell happened to your hair?" crossed my mind, and I gave a pretty ignorant look at it. I really didnt mean to be offensive or hurtful in the least, just genuinly curious. So, in my opinion, you have to feel out the context of the question. Some people just dont understand, and dont mean to be hurtful in any way. Others, like Dudemon's boss, mean to be hurtful.

Dudemon, rest assured that think your boss is going to hell. I can't imagine this. That is so cruel what he did to you. I really hope I never have a boss that taunts me about my hair loss. So far nobody has made fun of it or questioned me about what happened to my hair.

Lloyd, big difference between 80's and 2010's. If you guys care what others say, you should know that being bald has never been more accepted by your society than today.

This. And even if there isnt a hell, a person that acts like that is probably not happy with his life at all, so he suffers for his sins in some way.
