apparently, in most poeple there resides a bacterium in the gut, which produces a chemical substance called equol. anywho, in short this substance is the all natural dht arrester. this means although it doesnt inhibit the 5AR enzyme from producing dht, what it does "arrest" excessive amounts of dht and change its properties such that it can no longer interact with the androgen receptor and effect any androgenic response. the raw molecules for this substance are called isoflavones or something, found in green and tea and soy milk and other soy products.
it is worth noting that japanese men who have a diet high in soy products suffer from BPH in the same numbers as men in america, however this disease does not develop into prostate cancer in the same numbers as in america. this suggest that equol and soy products have an important role to play.
now, onto antibiotics. some poeple may commence a prolonged course of oral antibiotics to treat chronic conditions such as acne or lung infections. what these antibiotics do is also kill the bacteria producing equol, thereby denyin us the dht arresting of this molecule. hence, androgen dependant disorders such as male pattern baldness are more likely to occur.
so its important to appreciate, especially for the younger men that experience acne, that commencing a course of antibiotics may also lead to the onset of male pattern baldness, triggered by the elimination of the gut bacteria which produce equol.
equol is the ideal molecule fro tackling male pattern baldness since it delievers results without the side effects of drugs such as finasteride or dutasteride.
