Any long term spironolactone users here?

I suffered sides from both Finasteride and Minoxidil. Finally I thought I could combat my hair loss through the safe and effective way of using topical spironolactone.
Recently , I've been having heart palpatations and shortness of breath. Also , I got my weak erections back. This couldn't be from topical spironolactone right? I read that study that Byran posted a while back on none of those guys suffered any side effects. What the F%£k?

So anyways I go looking for the side effects of spironolactone and there is complications with the heart when taken orally. Could this mean that my topical spironolactone is being systematically absorbed? I mean why wouldn't it be?
Could someone please state why this is/is not true?

I believe that you will find that everyone here that started oral spironolactone has
stopped due to side effects. I'm interested to hear if any have used it long term.

As far as topical spironolactone it is not absorbed in the scalp enough to cause
problems and I don't recall anyone with sides from topical spironolactone. I've
used it for over a year and have no problems.

Do you still use topical spironolactone?

@decro, how much spironolactone are you applying. The recommended dosage? twice a day? once a day? Perhaps try reducing how much you put on and see if there is a difference. Or keep going with it to see if side effects subside... if after a few weeks, they are still present, stop spironolactone and see if they are gone. That way you'll know if spironolactone is the culprit.

Off and on. I used it religiously for about six months ran out, got more,
was out of the habit so I did not use it, etc. It's not been my most
consistent treatment.

if you had gains from using topical spiral, will your hair fall out similar to minoxidil if you stop using it?

I wouldn't think so. minoxidil induces hair growth and in doing so makes the hair minoxidil dependent.

spironolactone stops DHT from attacking the follicles, so it actually fights hairloss...

Yeh but it would be like quitting Propecia surely. You've grown back hair very susceptible to DHT, so when you stop the spironolactone, DHT will attack it again and it will probably thin/fall out within a year like finasteride.

Sure. It may not happen as fast as it does with minoxidil, but it would be inevitable.
