What were Polichem doing? I hear the name thrown around but am not knowledgable on their work.

They're making a topical finasteride solution with a different vehicle and a low dose, such that DHT is inhibited in the skin but not in the blood.

People always rant and rave about topicals but how can you apply it to anywhere you're diffuse thinning? Also how do you apply once hair has grown back?

This is the problem I have with nizoral shampoo and my long hair where there still is some, I can't actually get it to the scalp haha

Finasteride does a good job of spreading itself around regardless of how you take it in. It is hoped by some such as polichem that by applying it to the skin, though it will still spread over your entire skin and your entire bloodstream, it will do so with a greater fraction in the skin relative to the blood than with an equivalent amount ingested.

A separate issue is that some believe that DHT needs to be inhibited in both the skin and the blood to fight male pattern baldness. I don't know if that's demonstrated anywhere.

FYI, I've always used a cotton swab to apply my minoxidil where I still have hair (even back when I was still a full head)

They have a clinical trial registered underway on clinicaltrials.gov just search polichem... Looks pointless though

I think they should've gone with topical dutasteride. Makes more sense.

It's just barely above threshold. With the kind of penetration enhancers that a decent lab could cook up, I'm sure it would be possible.
I remember some people got sides from topical dutasteride even when applying it with just a bit of vegetable oil to help absorption.
