How many people here had noticeable hair loss in high school? I had noticeable hair loss in senior year and it was HORRIBLE. The pain and traumatic memories still haunt me to this day.

At least if you started in college you could wear a hat everywhere. Or get on propecia. I started at 17 so I was f**cked.

I started at 13. Earlist my dad would let me go on Rogaine was 15.
I also had dandruff and flaking, so from age 13, on sunday evening I would take a bath, use anti dandruff shampoo, and hide in home because after the bath my thin hair would be matted down revealing the bald spots.

One day some of my friends came over....

When I started rogaine, sometimes the itching would nearly drive me insane sometimes. But hair still fell out in clumps. Yes, clumps.

I'd sat my hairloss was noticeable in my late 20s. I once had a comment by a hairdresser that I had a bit of thinning in my mid 20s.

I always had a wide forehead as a child, and people have commented on that when I was a kid.. But, I don't think that counts.

I was lucky enough to not have noticeable thinning in hs. I was a Norwood 2 like a am now while I was a senior. I am hoping that its a mature hairline and that I keep it into my 30s. A good friend of mine is the same age, 19, and is a Norwood 2 approaching NW3. I know hes aware of it since we've had conversations about hairloss (not directly bringing each others up though). There were two guys in my HS who had solid Norwood 3 hair. One of them goes to uni with me now. He is approaching Norwood 4, with the island starting to form. Unfortunaly for him he is short, chubby and extremely hairy everywhere else. He easily looks in his 30s. It must really kill, I feel bad for the guy. I always hear people make remarks about how old he looks.

I receded in a lobsided fashion at the age of 14. There's not really any aggressive hair loss in my family, couple of uncles have lost a bit, dad's got an otherwise full norwood 2 (maybe lower.) At the time balding wasn't really something I'd considered- my hair was always thin and I put it down to parting it to one side, as when I changed my parting, the other side started. At 18 now I haven't lost any more hair but it's just an age where it's actually possible so I'm worried. I doubt it was male pattern baldness at 14 because I was late into puberty and such so I really don't know what's going to happen to my hair from hereon out. I always got the bad hair jokes from mates in the first year of college (I'm British so that's age 16/17) but just didn't let it get to me- there was nobody inmy college I really wanted to impress. My haircut now however is quite decent and definitely doesn't look 'balding' so I'm quite happy for now. Transplantation isn't really an option at such an age but at least there's SMP. I think anyone can pull off a shaved look as long as they think about the right hairline. And the 'can't be bothered with hair- I'll keep it shaved' attitude is actually kinda cool. Sorry for the massive post.

My hair loss started at 15 or 16, but it wasn't noticeable. I noticed it at 17 but no one else could tell I was losing it until I was in my early 20s.

I'm pretty sure I did but I didnt know it.

I remember at around age 15 or 16, thinking "Why does my hair grow so funny at the front now?". And I remember my dad making a comment on my haircut and I just said "I dont know my hair just grows funny".

I actually do remember at 15 or 16 briefly considering the idea that I might go bald, but I swear to god I actually remember saying to myself "Man Im already ugly enough, God wont let me go bald....".

Haha seriously!

I started losing it in the high school. Through the high school I really wasn't aware of it, I mean I saw that my hair had become weird, harder to style etc., there was some recession, but the coverage was good, and I certainly wasn't thinking that I'm going bald (only one case in my family, and it was not the closest family). So I lived with it through the high school. The serious thinning has activated after first year in college. So I'm 21 now, and my hair looks like sh$t.

Startet at 15/16 too. But my hair used to be very thick/curly so it wasn't really noticable. I'm 22 now heading towards Norwood 4.

Ha it's sad how fast male pattern baldness attacks some times. You can have full mop of thick hair, and in a few years you're struggling to keep the miserable rest of it

Nah, I've never tried to cover my thinning hair and receding hairline (I'm about Norwood 2.5-3 with quite bad thinning on top). I just keep it short all the time. The receded hairline is the worst sh$t. I wish I would have only thinning without recession.

Every man even with the thickest hair cannot be sure that baldness won't strike him some time.

Yeah, I started losing my hair in school, although I was oblivious to the fact for quite sometime. That is until a teacher, who was bald, kindly pointed out that I was receding and I could look forward to the prospect of being bald at 21. I was only 17 at the time so being told I would be bald in the space of 4 years, albeit not entirely surprising given my family history, was gut wrenching all the same.

As it turns out I wasn't completely bald by 21, but by the time I got to 21 I'd say my hair loss had started to bother me. I'm now 22 and I'd say I'm between a NW2.5/3 with some crown thinning. Taking into account my family history, in particular my father who I'm 100% positive I've inherited male pattern baldness from, I'd say I'll be completely bald by time I'm 25/26. :shakehead:

Oh the joys!

dude . . . . sorry about the experience. I don't know what to say. Aren't you traumatized?

Maybe I am who know(never have had any romantic with a girl and I'm in my mid 30s)...but I was 100% focused on academics. So didnt have too much time to dwell on hairloss. Plus my bro went through it earlier, so I knew it was coming.

I'm sorry to hear it.

I also experienced the same problem with minoxidil lotions. The new Rogaine foam is much better.

I started losing at the age of 17 but it never became noticeable because I was quick to act. I remember I did a lot of research at the time and found out about Proscar. I tried and it worked. Today I'm 35 and still a NW2.
