I'm thinking of trying "KetoChlor", which is for dogs, cats, and horses. It's about $20 including shipping for an 8 ounce/236 mL bottle, or $32 for double that size.
It has 1% Ketoconazole plus 2.3% chlorhexidine (an anti-bacterial agent used in mouthwashes). It also has an "anti-adhesive" agent, which i think dissolves sebum.
It's labeled for use on "animals only" (we're animals too!). Is there any reason not to use it?

Here is info on it: http://www.drugs.com/vet/ketochlor-shampoo.html

It's likely that it's not been tested on humans.

I read about people using Tail and Mane as a thickening agent.

Would you eat dog food? Hey, we're all just animals after all.

The poster makes a very valid point, it's a slippery slope with ill defined boundaries, your opening a gateway to a different lifestyle, sure it's fun at first, quite the thrill, but then it takes over your life like a compulsion, if you use a shampoo that dogs use you may find yourself living in a kennel with a passion to sniff other dogs butts (very embarrassing the first time it happens),

Animal shampoos - Just say neigh.

There are no bald dogs. This is clearly a good reason to use this shampoo!

Registered just to tell you that the problem with using this is that the Chlor part of Keto-Chlor is Chlorhexidine, which is a very powerful disinfectant/anti-bacterial. They put Ketoconazole in to control molds/fungus and the Chlorhexidine to presumably control bacterial growth on animals but Chlorhexidine is fairly harsh and drying. I was surprised at how cheap Keto-Chlor was compared to our human shampoos but unfortunately the Chlorhexidine makes it a pretty unpleasant seeming human shampoo.

If you really can't find it cheap in the US try importing it. The UK sellers haven't marked up their 1% shampoo yet, probably because most people haven't been searching for it since it's named differently-the 1% formulation is spelled "Nizorelle" in the UK and the small bottles are about $6 on ebay. You can also try Regenepure DR which has ketoconazole in it but that stuff is $25 (though a bigger bottle than the Nizorelle I could find).

Alternately if you live near the Canadian border you can try and see if the pharmacies over on their side have the 2% OTC stuff in stock.

Anyways, good luck on your hunt and if you actually do end up trying the Keto-Chlor please do let me know if the Chlorhexidine is as terrible for your head as I imagined it would be-whenever I've had to use it to clean my skin it's made it feel super dry.

I am not sure if it is a good idea, honestly... But if you need some, I recommend Pet Express, it is a great pet supplies store, and you will find a lot of different shampoo options there :D
