Are Additional Treatments Necessary To Thicken Hair?

I read somewhere that finasteride slows/stops hair loss, but typically does not THICKEN or improve the quality of existing hairs—that monoxidil is generally necessary to jump-start that. I've seen many success stories claiming finasteride alone with great regrowth and thickening, but I want to make sure those aren't exceptions that prove the rule.

I plan on getting on minoxidil soon, but the time isn't quite right do to other complications of my life. If finasteride can regrow hair that was previously gone, I don't see how it wouldnt thicken/improve the quality of hair already on the scalp...

Studies have shown finasteride increases the weight of existing hair. Consider using a ketoconazole based shampoo in addition to finasteride. My anecdotal experience is that after a year on finasteride my hair quality has clearly improved and people have commented to that effect.

Be consistent with your treatments.

Whats your opinion of 2% lotion vs 1% shampoo?

I believe you need a prescription for 2%. I use Regenepure DR on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and because it’s a shampoo it’s convenient because I shampoo my hair anyway, so doesn’t add any extra time to my routine.
