Avodart (Dutasteride) side effects

I've been doing a fair bit of research into Avodart (Dutasteride) and while the results have been generally positive with some users experiencing increased hair growth in as little time as 2 weeks, some users have experienced side effects, notably a receding hairline, breast pain and size increase, libido decrease and wrinkles under the eyes. I've also read in a few places that Avodart is for treatment for thinning hair on the vertex and mid-scalp area? I've got a receding hairline, thinning on the front area and towards the mid area but none on the crown. Would Avodart work for me?

I also uncovered this information from http://www.beIgraviacentre.com/dutasteride.htm:

"Side effects from Dutasteride are similar to those from Propecia but if they are experienced, they will last in the system for much longer. During the early stages of FDA trials there were cases of DHT levels only returning to 25% of their original levels almost 12 months after having discontinued the intake of Dutasteride. Therefore if side effects are experienced from Dutasteride it is possible that they could last for months or even longer. FOR HAIR LOSS, YOU TAKE DUTASTERIDE AT YOUR OWN RISK"

I was wondering if anybody on this forum using Avodart had experienced side effects such as further receding, a decrease in libido, breast pain and size increase or different side effects?

I'm in the midst of formulating a regime to stop my hairloss and recover what was once there and can't decide whether to start with Propecia or Avodart!

Definately try finasteride first.

It only inhibits type 2 5AR, unlike dutasteride which inhibits type 1 as well. There are people in the world born without the type 2 enzyme, but no similar "biological model" exists for dutasteride.

Finasteride has been around much longer, and there's lots of studies on it. At huge doses on monkeys, varying doses on people for different purposes, people of a variety of different ages...

Dutasteride has only one study i believe on people, and it wasn't 18-to-something hair loss sufferers like the propecia trials, the people were all middle aged or elderly, and BPH sufferers.

Also, as i said, finasteride has been around longer, and when faced with a choice between two similar drugs, opting for the one that has been around the longest is always a good idea.
