Back on finasteride after a year and a half of break

I’m 26 years old and I started losing my hair around when I was 17. At 23 I started taking finasteride. Had minor side effects but nothing major. My hair grew back to the best it’s been since I was 16. I stopped taking it about a year and a half ago because I didn’t have any health coverage. I recently went back on it a week ago. As of right now my hair is not as bad as it was 3 years ago even after being off it for a year and a half but definitely way worse than it was when I had my full results from the finasteride. I’m just wondering since I’m taking it again is it possible to get the same results as I had when I was taking it? Or will it just stay the same without further loss? I’m thinking that since it’s still better than it was when I first started taking it 3 years ago that I have a chance to respond very well again

It’s possible you will get that quality of regrowth again but no one really knows for sure. The fact that you are still young and responded well the first time is a very good sign. Keep in mind significant regrowth on finasteride usually only happens at younger ages. Success on finasteride is really about maintenance/slowing of hairloss.

Thanks for the reply. There’s not much on what happens after you quit after a significant amount of time and then start again. Everything i have seen basically says you’re doomed after you quit

There are some people who have been on and off finasteride multiple times without disastrous hair loss. What matters most are your genetics for hairloss. If one is destined for aggressive loss in his 20s and reaching his final pattern at 30 then inconsistent use of finasteride will obviously have a bad outcome. It’s possible you might be genetically destined for slow steady loss spread out over 20+yrs.

In a way it’s good you experienced this gap because now you know what the drug was doing for you and what the consequences are if you stop it.
